I want to jailbreak my iphone 3g for tethering but I'm reading endless problems here in the forum. Email not working, push not working, battery life destoryed etc etc I dont want to debug all these problems if pwning my iphone 3g means this much trouble.

How many 3g owners have done it and what are your experience?

I pwned my the day Pwnage 2.0 came out and I just wasn't satisfied with the whole thing.

Everything worked fine...I was having no issues like others mentioned like Push not working or decrease of battery life. The ONLY issue I was having was that there was so much lag in the whole interface. When I changed pages on the Home Screen...it wouldn't respond instantly but then a few seconds later it would just change the page instead of doing a smooth scroll. This lag could be due to Cydia.

My second issue was that there is absoultely nothing useful in Cydia. Currently there are absolutely no apps out there that are actually useful to me.

So i just switched back to stock firmware....everything works fine now...no lag.

do you know if the pwn process is completely irrversible? Nothing is written that cannot be recovered by a restore?

yup....pwning is the best method for jailbreaking because unlike Ziphone or iLiberty, pwnage is complately reversible.

All you need to do to go back to stock is have iTunes restore it for you. Just click Restore in iTunes and you're back to stock.

I pwn'd the day the tool was released and have had zero problems so far. Ssh, NES, etc are all working just fine. I've even gone so far as to modify some of the plist files to tweak the phone a bit here and there.

I also have not noticed the lag times ppl are reporting.

not just you.... i don't have any problems either, I pwned my own 3G and my gf 3G iphone.......both of them works great, i changed themes, icons, pictures, NES, cydia, and BigBoss Pref all works great.. kicks ass

no conflict or problems with the app store either... smooth sailing so far

Jailbroke the first time and accidentally left "unlock" option on when building the image - lost carrier, then restored without the unlock option works perfectly... rock on

I did the EXACT same thing as sttevo =D

Tried to jailbreak iphone 3g when i first got it from AT&T but i ended up with errors 160x.....I don't know what wrong...i was lucky to restore back to legit filmware . (using window Vista 64bit, Pwn tool 2.0 everything worked find but can't restore iphone to custom filmware). Stucked.

when i try to make the custom firmware... it says failed to make ipsw thing and it says it has to shut down
