    Default iPhone 2G 2.2 Unlock

    Hello Everyone!

Please correct me if I am wrong. When I upgrade my firmware from 2.1 to 2.2 in iTunes, doesnt that lock the phone back again???

I upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 and when the firmware was loaded on my iPhone the phone started up and it was still unlocked..

is that how it is supposed to be or not???

I dont have cydia or installer but I can still make phone calls and it is connected to the T-Mobile Network!!!!

    Thanks for any replies!!!

You're confusing unlocking and jailbreaking. By upgrading directly to firmware 2.2, your phone remains unlocked, but you lose the jailbreaking, i.e. you can't install any third-party apps or get access to the filesystem.

    so basically,

If you have an unlocked 2G iPhone and you upgrade the firmaware to the newer version, the phone will remain unlocked but will lose its jailbreaking.

If you have an unlocked 2G iPhone and restore a newer firmware (after you download it seperatly) in iTunes (Shift + Restore on windows, Option + Restore on Mac) then is will make you lose you jailbreaking and will lock the phone back to AT&T.
