iOS 4.0 multitask on iPhone 3G
I used Pwnage Tool 4.0.1 to jailbreak my iPhone 3G ( baseband = 04.26.08 ), it works but I have a small question:
What is the effect of selecting 'Re-enable functionality (multitasking, homescreen wallpaper and battery percentage indicator) checkbox?
At first I checked this checkbox and the performance of my iPhone 3G become very slow after I start and exit a few games.
I redo the whole process by unchecking this checkbox. This time my iPhone 3G performance is normal and acceptable ( without the multitasking feature ). The problem now is I loose the homescreen wallpaper and battery % indicator, how can I get them back but not the multitasking???

Forgot to mention that I'm on baseband 04.26.08 and I rely on ultrasn0w for the unlock. It looks like redsn0w offer separate checkbox for multitasking, homescreen wallpaper and battery %, the question is then :
if I use redsn0w to jailbreak will it upgrade my baseband? I prefer to stay at 04.26.08 as recommended. Thanks

This should work:
Create ipsw with PwnageTool, keep multitasking off. This way you will keep your current baseband.
Then use redsn0w to activate just wallpaper and battery-%.

Sounds like a good idea Chris. But when I started redsn0w and browse for the Custom ipsw file, redsn0w just don't want to accept it and give me 'Unable to recognize specified IPSW'. If i choose the normal IPSW, redsn0w will accept it, but will redsn0w update my 04.26.08 baseband??? Thanks again

Redsn0w itself will never update baseband. Only loading an IPSW via iTunes does this.
You need to do what you mentioned last. Use normal IPSW with redsn0w.

To be more specific, I've restored my iPhone 3G using Custom IPSW created by Pwnage tool with multitasking off. Baseband is still at 04.26.08. When I use redsn0w, should I browse for the Custom IPSW ( not accepted by redsn0w ) or should I use the normal IPSW ( will redsn0w upgrade my 04.26.08 baseband ) ? Sorry for this as I haven't used redsn0w before. Thanks

It works now!!! Thanks Chris and Olethros.
For those who wish to do the same on their iPhone 3G, here's the summary of what I did :
1. Create custom IPSW file using Pwnage Tool 4.0.1 with multitasking off.
2. Restore your iPhone 3G using the custom IPSW file.
3. Start redsn0w and browse for normal IPSW file ( Custom IPSW not accepted by redsn0w anyway )
4. Check/uncheck multitask, homescreen wallpaper and battery % as you wish and activate your phone.
5. Install ultrasn0w via Cydia if you need unlock.

Thanks for this thread. So Apple upgrades the baseband through official updates, using pwnage is to update to 4.0 w/o baseband upgrade and then redSn0w to get additional 4.0 functionality?
What's the best way to clean a phone? Is it to go through this whole procedure again?
