how to restore back to firmware 2.2 from 2.2.1

a friend of mine has upgraded from 2.2.1 with modem firmware 02.30.03

i understand in order to jailbreak, you MUST be either at firmware 2.2 and modem firmware 02.28.00 (or have used PwnageTool(NOT QUICKPWN.

so my question is, how to restore back from 2.2.1 to 2.2 with modem firmware 02.30.03

No you cant. Your friend is stuck with fw 2.2.1 and baseband 02.30.03 until an unlock might come in the future. No way downgrading the 3G's baseband as of now, sorry.

that is too bad. in other word, once you upgraded to a newer firmware via itunes, there is not way to revert back?

Is it not possible to restore using the altered firmware created from another 2.2 phone having used the Pwnage tool

Not for the iPhone 3G. the baseband would have to be downgraded aswell and this is not possible.

Do you foresee this little issue being resolved by any of the current hackers and developers, I suppose the question is, is there a gain in doing so at this point. I am hoping I am not the only one to fall foul of this and if demand rises high enough, the need for a solution should arise.

Thanks anyway and I will just have to watch this space in the hope a solution or work around is devised.

hi, got the same problem but i'am on a 2g phone... how do i downgrade my bootloader to get a working phone again? everything works but the telephone panel, impossible to make a call...

DFU restore to firmware 2.2.1, then use Quickpen or PwnageTool to jailbreak, activate unlock. This should do the trick as long as it is no hardware problem.
