Default How to go from 1.0.2 (1st gen phone) to the latest firmware ?

I've downloaded the whitesn0w and BL 39 and 46 and the 3.1.3 firmware. I don't want to lose my phone numbers from the phone, what extra step should I take for the upgrade ? Would Skipping the 2.0 firmware cause problem ?

    Thanks,

Just make sure you have set iTunes to sync contacts with your PC/Mac in the sync preferences available when your iPhone is plugged in. Ensure it syncs with Outlook/Windows Contacts/etc, then perform a full sync, and verify the existence of the contacts. Right click on your phone and make a backup (though if possible we recommend not restoring from backup during big upgrades), and then do the upgrade.

    That should be it!

There is no need to go to 2.0 but if you have a 2G iPhone that was unofficially unlocked on OS 1.0.2 (or any OS lower than 1.1.1) you might need to do some extra steps before you can upgrade to OS 3.x

Are you still on a legitimate contract with your 2G iPhone? Can you activate your iPhone normally through iTunes.

What are you referring to as whitesn0w? You need redsn0w to jailbreak/hacktivate/unlock a 2G iPhone on OS 3.x

Thanks for the responses, my phone is not under contract, it was unofficially unlocked on OS 1.0.2, could you tell me what extra steps need to be done. Thanks for letting me know about redsn0w. When I connect the iphone with the latest itunes software, it does not recognize the iphone, so can't take backup of the contacts and other content.

    Appreciate your response.

There were problems with the way one early unlock worked. Do you know which unlock technique was used? AnySIM or iPhoneSimFree? Or did you use a SIM proxy (turboSIM etc)?

As for iTunes you might need to downgrade to an older version that only supports OS 1.x. This will allow you to sync and also you will probably need to upgrade to OS 1.1.1 to verify you have correctly fixed the problems the 1.0.2 unlock created.

I recommend using iliberty to run the virginator script that cleans up the problems created by the early unlock.

See this thread for information http://www.hackint0sh.org/f136/68400.htm - many of the links to downloads might be dead now. Google for updated links or ask around on this forum

Thanks for your response. I used AnySIM for unlocking.

I'll try the older version of the itunes to sync up.

If you used AnySIM you need to undo the damage that AnySIM did before you can upgrade past OS 1.0.2 - that thread I linked to explains the process.
