Default [edited] help a n00b: 2G to 3G to 2G, non iPhone ATT SIM

I have a particular situation that can't find having been addressed before:

My wife has a legit iPhone 2G, as a family plan line on our account. Today I upgraded her to an iPhone 3G at an ATT store which they activated in-store. I have a 3G non-iPhone (LG CU500) with unlimited data.

Is there a way to switch her back to using 2G and use my existing 3G ATT sim card in the iPhone 3G? I can't just swap SIMs, so I'm guessing I'll have to unlock one or both phones? Is this possible?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Update - Please help

OK - I ended up deciding that the easiest approach, for now, is to let my wife keep the new OTB 3G, as activated by ATT, and then jailbreak/unlock the old 2G and use it with my existing ATT SIM. After a bunch of trial-and-error, I was able to get the 2G working with my SIM, and everything seems to be working fine except one thing:

The old 2G phone appears to still be synced with my wife's Mac and won't sync or show up on mine. That is, when I plug the old phone into her laptop I get a message in iTunes that says "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer. Set-up as iPhone? or Restore from a backup?" It also show's her phone number instead of mine (despite my SIM being inserted and working). When I plug it in to my computer, I get the "connected to USB" chirp, then nothing else.

So, my simple question is: How do I unlink the 2G phone from her laptop and get it to show up in my iTunes on my Mac? I can get in via ssh - I just need to know what files to edit/remove/etc.

    Thanks!

using this iClarified tutorial I was able to get the 2G syncing to both computers, so my last question is clarified. If somebody has some information for solving my first query, I'd still be interested, but for now, I'm all set. Thanks for the great resource.

and no, ATT automatically knows when youre using the 3g iphone or not the 3g iphone...

and the circle gets the square.
