Getting error 1600 while attempting to restore to 2.2.1
I have created four different ipsw files with PwnageTool for my iPhone 3G and tried to restore them to my iPhone (in DFU mode) on two different Macs (with the USB kext fix), on one PC (my iMac in XP via bootcamp), and in VMWare Fusion (on a mac with the USB kext fix). Every single time I get a "1600" error from iTunes.
Does anyone know what I should do to fix this? I am not new to jailbreaking nor am I a novice. Last time I had this problem (when I was updating to 2.2) I simply updated to Apple's standard ipsw and used QuickPwn because I was tired of the problems with the old modem firmware. This time though (even though I have an AT&T contract) I would like to keep the option of Yellowsn0w open.
If I can't fix this problem after a while, I may just decide to live with the modem upgrade, but I get the feeling that I am not the only person who has had this problem and that someone else may have had this problem and figured out how to fix it.

Hi
If you're running 2.2 with 02.28.00 baseband then I wouldn't put the phone in DFU.
Get the phone up and running with Quickpwn2.2 on 2.2 firmware again then try holding shift/alt, clicking restore in itunes & selecting the 2.2.1 custom firmware you made.

What is the difference between DFU and recovery mode. Both in terms of operation and how you boot into it.
Edit: Google is my friend. (In case anyone else finds this looking for how to boot into recovery mode, turn off the iPhone, then hold down the home button while plugging it into the usb cable).
Edit 2: It seems to be working.
