    Unhappy Error 6, Error 1601

    Hi, i'm sorry if this question was already raised.
    I'm new to the forum and i'm so lost.

    I Have a iphone 2g that was ziphoned arround march (1.1.4). Now i know that ziphone it's a bad choice, i didn't at the time (followed friends :-( )-

    Recently it started to make instant reboots all the time so i've decided to try to upgrade.

    I've tried pwnage 2.1 but it didn't wen't well.
    Since then i've been trying several solutions, based on info on net, using my macboock pro, in macOSX and WinXP (bootcamp):

    - itunes 7.5 (7.6) + 1.4.4 restore: error 6;
    - itunes 8 + 1.4.4 Restore : error 6;
    - itunes 8 + 2.1 : error 1600;
    - itunes 8 + 2.1 Custom (Pwnage) : error 1600;
    (and others original firmwares 1.3, 1.2, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, in DFU and in restore mode : always gives error 6);

    I must say that in the middle of that i've tried, in dispair, ziphone again.

    It's just returns to recover mode.

    I've read in several sites that i must try using a diferent computer due to itunes "leftovers" or usb problems. Should it help?

    I've read in many places that error 6 and error 1600 mean i've got myself a ibrick. Is it true? is it unsolvable?

    I've read, i think that in a thread in this forum, info about Ierase, part of kiphone, but i've got confused. Is it a solution?

    Thanks for you're attention.

    Unless you have a custom firmware you need to use I'd restore with a std 2.1 firmware image then run quickpwn instead of pwnagetool.

    Quickpwn should not give you any 1600 errors

    Well
    the problem it's that i even can't install a standard 2.1 firmware.
    I've reinstalled itunes 8 on mac now, shift restored the standard 2.1 firmware, recovery mode and DFU, it still raises an error.

    Itunes sees the phone but Quickpwn can't find it.

    This is unusual but you're the second person I've seen today with this problem restore with std firmware images.

    I can only suggest you insure the DFU restore is correctly done

    And maybe re download a fresh 2.1 firmware image from apple

    Well,

    n350z i've tried again with a fresh 2.1 from apple. Gave the 6 error again.
    In a blink i've decided to try normal mode option-restore with the 1.4 firmware in itunes 8, operation that i've done several times before without success, and surprisely IT WORKED !

    After that i did the next steps:

    - Used pwnage 1.1 to hack the 1.4: pwnage runned smoothy without a problem but didn't activated/unlocked the phone;

    - i've tried to update to standard (downloaded in itunes 8) 2.1 firmware so i can use Pwnage 2.1 - it didn't work, error 6 again;

    - i then restored a 1.4 custom firmware created with pwnage 1.1 and it worked.

    Jailbreaked and activated AGAIN.

    So i can only conclude that ziphone it's still there, maybe the wrong bootloader. But i'm so happy that the phone it's working again that i'm not mess with it again, even if starts rebooting by free will again.

    Thanks everyone.

    Hello Guys,

    Maybe someone can also assist me. I was on 2.1 with partition resized to 2000MB. I figured there is no need for it so I downgraded back to 2.0.1 and then tried to restore with custom file partitioned with 500MB space.

    iTunes always gives me an error 1600 or error 6 when I tried to restore with custom file. Original 2.0.1 goes through fine... very frustrating!

    I have downgraded back to 7.7 from 8.0.

    Thanks,
    R

    Put phone in DFU mode !!! and then select your custom firmware to restore.

    The only way Ive been able to install custom firmware now since the new iTunes is to install fresh 2.1, run quickpwn, then after that install custom firmware. Long process... reminds me of the good old days of jailbreaking 1.1.2... LOL
    iPhone 3G 3.0 unlocked via ultrasn0w! in conjunction with redsn0w! Thanks dev team!

    Why ?? If you are going to use custom firmware then you should use pwnagetool in the first place rather than quickpwn.
    Am I missing something ?
