Custom firmware through iTunes for PwnageTool 2.2.1?
Hi,
According to the iPhone devs they say this:
iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything.
So, can I only use QuickPwn or can I make a custom firmware and do a RESTORE in iTunes with the custom firmware? Will iTunes accept it?
I updated it directly in iTunes and it's now running 2.2, but one day I may need to restore it. I don't want to use QuickPwn because it's got that pineapple logo... I just want everything standard, no installer, no cydia... this is why I prefer using PwnageTool.
Thanks.

You can definitely use Pwnage. Indeed, the Dev Team blog is a bit misleading there. I don't think they meant it that way. I think they just meant to say that it is simpler to use QuickPwn. I think the only problem people may have with Pwnage is if the iPhone has not been pwned before and they are using new Mac machines (can't remember which type). But in most cases you are just fine

I think the dev team is informing about the quickest and simplest way, which is fine. I've performed an upgrade via iTunes first then quickpwned and bingo... However you can use the pwnage tool instead. IMHO quickpwn is a simpler tool for regular upgraders, pwnage tool is for the first time or if you want to refresh you phone.
