Sorry, I have been offline for two days. Vodafone Indias MCC/MNC should start with 404... as far as I know. As Speedy said, you first have to find out your MCC/MNC, then create the custom bundle for it. The Readme will tell you what symlink you have to look for.

there is a new package in cydia called APN Editing, which makes this whole process very simple....no need to go for this custom bundle at all...after upgrading to 2.1 i installed this package and was able to edit the APN Settings. It works for all jailbroken phones..

Thanks for that info, however the purpose of creating custom carrier bundles is entirely different.
In fact, editing APN is possible even without jailbreaking, if you have an unlocked phone and a non-official carrier (in that case Unknown.bundle is used, which permits APN editing by default).

This is a wrong thread to ask such questions. FYI, your phone must be pwned before restoring custom firmwares.

sri lanka query
hello,
originally from the US, just moved to colombo, sri lanka temporarily; have a 16gb 3g iphone still under at&t contract that i've pwned, but can't seem to get the custom bundle created from volkspost's generator to work (using dialog telecom sim card). need to mention that i've also pwned my girlfriend's 2g iphone and it works fine with the DT sim card, which is what i used to get the MCC/MNC codes (413, 2).
just wondering if you know of anyone who has had it work, or do i need to go in via ssh and add the bundle manually? any tips are appreciated...
thanks in advance,
cc
ps- running 2.1 on both, pwnd with 2.1 (obvs)

XML versus Binary for iphone 3G FW 2.1
@volkspost
I might have a solid explanation to why, since FW 2.1, carrier bundles are not working that good.
In a previous thread I posted:http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53023 , I reported:
Apparentely, the iphone 3G, specially since FW 2.1, does not support the XML mode, which was not the case for the previous version of the iphone!
I discovered that by trying to replace the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings. I first converted the SpringBoard.strings in XML, did some changes and then replaced the original binary one with the modified XML one: it did not work!!!!!
Then I converted the modified XML one in a binary form : and IT DID WORK!!!!
My conclusion is that the 3G iphone, specially since FW 2.1, DOES NOT SUPPORT the XML form, contrary to the previous version of the iphone!!!!
My conclusion is that all plists inside the carrier bundle, should be converted to binary mode to be fully functional!!
use the link http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml to do so.
Just my 2 cents.
PS : anyone could tell me if that works??

System/Library/Carrier bundles
and you look up your customised Carrier bundle where you will find 3 plists that should be converted to a binary form!

thanks for your tips docomar; unfortunately it didn't seem to work. question: is there any indication as to the success of creating the binary file? each of the files that i covert at iappcat.com comes back listed as an ascii file, which leads me to believe that they are not converting properly.
looking into converting them myself with plutil now...
thx again

Normally, at least for me and a lot of others, when you use http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml :
- if you convert a binary file, in return you will get an XML.plist that you can edit
- if you convert for example the XML.plist you got previously and you edited,, you will get in return a binary.plist; and that is this lattest one that you should copy back in your 3G iphone, after changing his name to the correct one ( for example : carrier.plist )
I hope that is clear enough!
PS : They are converting pretty well : I never had any problem converting with
http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml
