[Bootloader] What's the difference between 3.9 and 4.6 ?

I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages between the two different bootloaders.

There is a difference. With the 3.9 bootloader you can do an ipsf style unlock which means the unlock is update/restore resistant and so you dont need to unlock every time you update/restore. im sure there may be other advantages of the 3.9 over the 4.6, but at the moment i cant think of any.

You may want to go back to 4.6 because you want to take it back to the Apple store. they know what BL you should have.

With 4.6 the iphone has "pseudo" GPS working on Google Maps using triangulation from nearby cellphone towers. It comes in very handy when you are away from home.

Just try to switch your bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9 and give a try to the google location fonction. You will see that it perfectly works on BL 3.9 too.
It is not a matter of BL but of firmware baseband...
I am on BL3.9 and the pseudo gps fonction works very well.

Nobody really has a theory yet as to how the bootloader can affect this, but some people are observing battery life difference when all they do is switch to 4.6BL.

The results seems mixed. Nobody reports *worse* battery life going to 4.6, but some people report it makes significant improvement. It's all empirical so far, no idea as to why it would be.
