[Boot Logo] I'll make them for you
Hi, since i had so much trouble getting the pwnage tool to see my pngs as "proper" and to accept them, i decided that now i think i have the hang of it i will post the method i used, which is very simple and has worked every time for me. All credit should goto patvg, i simply tidied up the wording:
1. Click FILE>NEW in Photoshop, select PRESET>Custom, enter a size smaller than 320x480 pixels for width and height, but bigger than the image which you wish to use. Select COLOUR MODE>RGB>8-BIT, then BACKGROUND CONTENTS>TRANSPARENT . Also click ADAVANCED and ensure you have COLOUR PROFILE>SRGB... selected and PIXEL ASPECT RATIO>SQUARE PIXELS. (you might save these presets for other iPhone png files you want to create).
2. Put your picture in it using FILE>PLACE, and selecting the image from your computer, You can do this numerous times to select several images as you wish. Then position it on the canvas and click the tick on the taskbar; alternative might be using (in addition or not) the text tool to add text to the canvas.
3. Click FILE>SAVE FOR WEB and DEVICES, ensure you have PRESET>PNG-24, ensure the TRANSPARENCY box is checked. Then at the botton left it will tell you the size of your image, ensure it is less than or equal to 100KB. If it is larger select IMAGE SIZE from the right and for the PERCENT box enter a lower percentage to make the image smaller and so file size smaller, click apply. Keep entering a lower percentage until the size gets below or equal to 100KB.
4. Click save, browse to your desired destination and save it as a .png file.
5. In PwnageTool select the file you just saved and so long as you ensured the file size is below 100kb and followed all steps correctly it should work.
Hope this helps,
james

Just provide me with the png file you wish to use (i should also be able to convert other formats to png, and then to "proper png"), and i will get back to you with a compatible file. Please let me know of any sizing requests, also i do not guarantee that i will be able to convert it successfully but ill have a go as i think i have the hang of it now.
thanks,
james
Why don't you just write a walk through for others to follow. Then lots of people can benefit.

or perhaps maybe just post a .psd that's already in the correct format and everything and just let us save it as a .png ourselves... then we can just save the .png file ourselves.

Ok i will edit my post and post the walkthrough i followed. but the method posted by xMemphisx would not work as all logos are different, everybody wants different logos.

this works most times. but if i try to put in a picture for the background, ie. something with lots of colours, pwnagetool rejects the image, even though the file size is down around 82k.
I followed the instructions to a T and it works fine until i add a photo. is there maybe a limit on # of colours too?

No i think its because you need to have the back layer as a transparent layer. And so by putting a photo as the back layer it is not transparent. thats why the first thing you create need to be the canvas of size upto 320x480 pixels which is transparent. Im sure it would work fine if you then go and place a picture into it using the place command.
Well to be completely honest you dont actually need to have the back layer as transparent, you just need to have a transparent border i.e. some of the transparent layer showing at the sides.
Hope this helps,
james

Trying to create a proper PNG to change the Boot logo in Pwnage Tool is a NIGHTMARE... Nothing works. I follow all the explanation here and in other websites and always got the same error message of PnwageTool: "Sorry, but that doesn't appear to be the proper PNG file".
I'm lost and don't find the solution.
At least, please... someone can help me to recover the Apple logo as a Boot Logo and remove the pinneapple. Also to remove the guy in the Recovery logo? Don't want the pinneapple as boot logo, at least, an easy way to restore the factory setting.
If I restore to factory settings using iTunes the pinneapple logo still there. How can remove it?
Could be nice if someone can create an application to change logos in an easy way.
I appreciate too much any help to remove the pinneapple and the guy and/or a way to create a valid PNG to walkarround this problem.
Thank you.
Tom
