And will it fix my issue?
Only trust unofficial unlock from the iPhone Dev Team, Geohot

These two always provide unlock for free, they also deliberately license their unlocks so it is illegal to sell them.
See: http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/2009/...-campaign.html for a better explanation

The link you posted directs you to a pay-for-unlock. These can NEVER be trusted.

Proxy-SIM solutions stopped working before OS 3.0 and were unreliable in many countries before that.

Hardware baseband bootloader downgrades are possible for 3G but that will invalidate your warranty and only a few people in the world have the skills and tools to do this without ruining your phone.

In summary - keep waiting for OS 4.0 and a new jailbreak/unlock for that OS version.

I went through the exact same problem steps as described in the original post (i.e. having a perfectly unlocked phone, restoring it to defaults, getting stuck at pineapple, restoring with 3.1.3 in itunes, then getting 16xx errors from itunes every time I try to restore using custom firmware).

Only difference is that my phone is original/1st gen and I am still stuck I believe I am using the right firmware (iPhone1,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) and I have redsn0w 0.9.2 .

redsn0w gets to the point of guiding me into DFU...but then it just gets stuck at "waiting for reboot". I've tried unplugging+reconnecting the USB cable like some folks suggested, but no luck. Also, when I am in DFU mode (confirmed by PwnageTool) iTunes seems to also have problems recognizing the phone as it just sits there saying "waiting for ipod". I only see this problem in Mac iTunes, not Windows...but both are running latest itunes 9.1.x and I can't use redsn0w in Windows

    Can anyone help?

    YES!!!! Solved....phew.....

Don't ask me why...but for some reason the Mac version of P0wnageTool and redsn0w were now working well with my phone in this condition. The solution? Windows version of redsn0w - it worked perfectly first time (I had restored the 2G phone to 3.1.3 via iTunes restore and then I fed the 3.1.2 IPSW to redsn0w). The Windows version of redsn0w did not get stuck at the "waiting for reboot" stage like the Mac did, and the jailbreak was 100% smooth. My unlock from before this whole mess was retained!!

Thanks all, I hope this helps somebody...

Then there must be something else going on here considering I have a 3G and Redsn0w thinks I have a 3GS. What else could possibly be causing this? That might lead to a clue as to how to resolve my issue.

No, I unfortunately did neither, but surely there must be a way to revert to an older firmware, jailbreak it, and then try to downgrade the baseband on my 3G to get it all working again, no?

    Any other ideas?
OK, I finally resolved this after the new hacks were released and as explained here: iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using UltraSn0w

However, now I have another problem. The "Cellular Data Network" button is missing under Settings -> General -> Networks.

I altered the carrier.pslist as detailed in this post but it did not appear.

Any ideas on how I can get the "Cellular Data Network" button to appear in iOS4 so I can configure my APN and have internet access on my phone?

I solved one problem only to encounter another!

    Thanks again.

What OS are you running now? There is no solution for this problem on OS 4.0 right now - on earlier OS versions there are solutions

Try: Carrier Bundle Generator iPhone OS 3.0 - 3.1.2 (ipcc)

Default Thank you so freaking much!

I know that this thread is older than sin, but here in 2012-land I just did the same exact thing as OP to my original iPhone 3G. That link to the iPhone1 3.1.2 firmware just saved my frakking ass.

    So thanks!!! I donated $5.
