    Default [Advise]Pwnage or Winpwn

    Hey

I Just got home from vacation And need to upgrade my 2G iphone from 114. But what would be best, to use Winpwn on my Vista PC or Pwnage on my 10.5.2 hackint0sh computer? Iv'e read that winpwn is unstable on Vista PC's.

    Best regards

Yeah that is what i am intending to do, pwn and make custom ISPW file on my hackint0sh and then use my Vista PC to restore it with the custom ISPW file in DFU mode. And then sync it with my old backup

AFAIK, there are no issues restoring from backup, freezing keyboards, etc. with xpwn based solutions (which includes winpwn). The problem, according to wizdaz, is that the zip file containing pwnagetool sometimes gets extracted with the incorrect permissions. Those incorrect permissions are then transferred onto the iPhone/iPod. Those problems will be corrected in an imminent release.

However, there has been problems generating the IPSWs with winpwn, just because of the memory requirements. However, if it successfully generates an IPSW, there doesn't seem to be any issues with the IPSW itself (no permissions problems). It's also a bit more confusing in terms of usability, DFU mode, etc. Apparently, it's unclear to people that they are not supposed to check Activate and YouTube fix for the iPhone 3G (and they end up with no signal). Just usability related problems like that.

So, pick your poision: permissions problems on the iPhone or crashes on your computer.
