Exclamation [Advice] BootNeuter for Dummies [read if n00b] [updated]

    [updated]

    Hi!

Recently, BootNeuter got updated, here you have important information about its usage.

    Important Information:

==> Do not close BootNeuter while flashing. Sometimes it takes longer
than expected, but that is just fine. If you close it or crash it, you will have serious
    troubles.
==> Do not manipulate your iPhone while BootNeuter its working. Sometimes
errors happen and people press buttons accidentally.
==> Uninstall BootNeuter when you're done with it. Friends always take risks
without knowing what would happen, and when they realize what's going on, they
just close the application. There you have, a bricked iPhone.

    Recommendations:

==> If you forgot to set autolock to never, and iPhone locks, turn on the screen
then you should see the progress, it is still working, you can keep it
alive by pressing the volume button or the silence/ring switch, do not crash the app and
do not try to close it. The app is still working.
==> BootNeuter is not a game, if you do something wrong, your iPhone will pay it.
==> If your iPhone is working fine, there is no need to use it.
==> (you say "You're trying to scare me, iPhone can't be permanently bricked") I say,
check the Software Unlock forum for a thread about the 1011 error. There are
some iPhones that are bricked and there is no solution for them.

If you need further help, don't mind about sending me a PM.

    > They forget to set auto lock to never, phone auto locks, then, BootNeuter is still working and they crash it, and running the app again should solve the problem.

People, if you are using BootNeuter you must take it serious.
This tool is powerful, but you can make your iPhone a Brick if don't know how to use it.

    Recommendations:

    > If you forgot to set autolock to never, and phone locks, just leave it, turn on the screen and
you should see the progress, it is still working, you can keep it alive by pressing
the volume button or the silence/ring switch.
    > Do not attempt to close it, it should finish and autoreboot.
    > Using BootNeuter is not a game, you close it = brick.

I agree pretty much with you. Many people think BootNeuter is just some app that will do everything in an instant. It can take up to 10 minutes in some cases [even more] so whatever you do DO NOT close it.

I've had 2 friends that went ahead with it just because they saw me do it on mine. They seriously messed up their phones. Long stories short, one of them had to buy a new one, the other recovered (luckily).

Anoter piece of advice concerning if you forgot to put Autolock to Never
    - Just slide your finger across the screen every 45 secs or so [do not let the lapse between slides greater than 1 min or it may lock] and you should be fine.
    - Most critical part is the Bootloader Flashing, that interrupted equals The Brick, the baseband can be recovered by simply reflashing new firmware using iTunes, noit that serious but still take it SERIOUSLY.

    ends....

I know that it is hard not to screw around the screen while flashing .. If installing software on xp teaches me anything : do not close windows that appear to be non responsive .. Even with. Progress bar , it can appear hang .. But its writing a hellfold of data in one pass ..

When I unlocked with iliberty plus, I had to walk away when it was downgrading the bootloader to 3.9fake blank .. It's like flashing Your rom/bios in your pc. Give five minutes of walk away time ..

The only thing I don't understand is why they didn't implement a feature like AnySim had back in the days later on where it checked it auto-lock was set. If it wasn't then you'd have to change it first to continue. Or maybe another application can't tell for sure but there was an app out there checking for autolock=set yes/no.

Anyone from the WinMoBo world will know all about bricking bootloaders.
Even though it was a regular thing, and everybody knew it happened and what caused it, you still saw hundreds of threads saying
"While upgrading the bootloader I decided to take the battery out to polish it, now it wont load" or some other stupid thing.
You cant make anything idiot proof, because they just make a better idiot.

Hah, you can't make anything idiot proof you're right about that but there's a difference between mistakes and slipups vs. totally mentally challenged p00ptards just doing the opposite of what the manual says. I can only laugh at the latter and i'm dying to see a post here like that xD

I'm a noob, bear with me. Should you keep the boot neuter icon on the iphone or should you just delete it? What happens if you accidentally hit the boot neuter program on your unlocked iphone?

    Thanks all.

You should keep it if you wish to change anything later on, else you can simply delete it. If you tap the icon accidentally it only determines your current settings. Only when you hit the red "flash" button it could reflash according to the setting you would have changed after it has determined which settings you have.
