Question Activating 2g iphone w/ broken home button

Is there a way to activate my iPhone if the home button is broken? I have a prepaid SIM that I want to use, but when I connect to iTunes it says that it cannot activate with this sim.

Is it possible to hacktivate it w/o a functional home button!?

yea, my phone is on 2.0, so i couldn't use it anyways.

can't i use iTunes to activate the iPhone with a prepaid card? w/o needing to go into DFU mode?

    *edit*

    Just found this..
Alternate Method: Going Into DFU Mode Without Button Pushing: (on windows) Easier than timing the buttons just right!

1.) First download the required archive http://www.sendspace.com/file/93fx93

2.) Extract the archive to the root of your hard drive, should be C:/DFU/

3.) Connect your iPhone and ignore iTunes

    4.) Goto Start - run

    5.) Next type in “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”

6.) Wait for iPhone to show a “white” screen

7.) Now you may proceed to downgrade!

Would that work with an iPod touch 1G?

Does anyone know if this method works with a 3G phone on firmware 3.0? I'm trying to jailbreak this phone so I can install sbsettings and/or ihome to workaround a broken home button. Please respond with anything that may be helpful so I can save the $200 to get a replacement phone!

    Thanks!

FYI: I tried this method on a 3G iPhone running firmware 3.0 and it put the phone in recovery mode instead of DFU mode.

    FYI:

One thing that I noticed after running the command line utility is that when the phone is off and I plug in the connected USB to either the power adapter or a computer, the phone goes into recovery mode! However, I turn it off and on again and it's back to normal. I'm not sure if this is due to the busted home button triggering the recovery mode or if the utility changed the phone settings to do this. I noticed it before the jailbreak so I tried an iTunes restore and the behavior still occurred. THEN I jailbroke (for the first time ever) and it still occurs. No big deal though since it goes away after rebooting.
