Default 4.1 is out, 4.2 is coming.... What now?

    Hi all!

This is not one of our usual OMG!!! HELP!! I UPDATED MY PHONE AND NOW IT'S LOCKED!!! GIVE ME MY JAILBREAK NNNOOOOWWWW!!! kind of threads.

Today 4.1 is out. As Apple promised 4.2 for november, I was wandering what the dev-team plan was regarding their solutions. Will they release anything anytime soon? Or will they save their exploits until 4.2?

Any answers are appreciated, as well as are speculations!

    Cheers!

    I hadn't, thanks!

    Wow, sounds really promising!

Could this lead to one of those "Pwn'd for life" kind of things? I sure hope so!

The details are scarce on this. At best it might be like 24kpwn that requires an iBoot exploit to be able to first pwn the device.

Think this is being overblown by the media. My theory is that this is an improved (maybe untethered) version of the existing tethered bootrom exploit that was found long ago by posixninja and later by geohot.

Nah there should be nothing complex to decrypting the 4.1 ipsw for iPhone 3g - you should be able to do it on any 2g or 3g jailbroken iPhone with openiboot or a correctly patched kernel.

ih8sn0w posted the 3GS keys, he's got a vested interest as he can be the first to offer custom IPSW for 4.1 with his pwnagetool clone sn0wbreeze.

pod2g is focused on the devices that previously were not pwned/untethered at the bootrom level.

    SHAtter is tethered.
Plans for 4.1/4.2 are still TBD AFAIK.

Personally I hope there is one more userland exploit up someone's sleeve. Give them more time to try and make SHAtter (or a derivative) untethered.

The SHAtter exploit itself is tethered and always will be. W
If there are other exploits is it worth revealing them for 4.1?
