You guided me when I wanted a 3GS oldbootrom jailbreak, I had OSX in VMWare to run pwnagetool and create the ipsw. In VMWare, you cant enter DFU mode, so you had me use redsn0w to enter DFU mode and apply the custom IPSW. All went well.

I am wondering if I can do the same to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1? I would like to use pwnagetool 4.2 to create the IPSW, I am hoping there is a version of redsn0w out there that can be used to enter DFU mode, so I can shift-restore the custom IPSW in iTunes?

Any thoughts on if this is workable this time around. I want a real Mac, but can't afford one (yet).

redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 will help you get into pwned DFU mode on windows.
