Default 3GS on 3.1.3 old bottom Week 26 jailbreak

    Hello all,

This might have been mentioned before but I just couldn't find it.

So I have an iPhone 3GS, week 26 (old bootrom) on 3.1.3 and never been jailbreaked before.

I want to jailbreak it. Is it possible since it has the old bootrom? I tried using pawnage 3.1.5 but after the custom firmware is finished it gets stuck on "detecting phone".

Am I able to jailbreak and unlock or there is no luck????

    Thanks for all the help.

    Thank you for the help.

that did work for me but I have one last question. I noticed the its is an "MC" model. does that mean if the battery died then it requires a tethered boot?

    No, not with spirit.

Don't need a pc to boot.

You cannot use MB/MC to determine the bootrom version on the iPhone 3GS -- that is only applicable to certain iPod Touch models. The only two ways to determine the iPhone 3GS's bootrom at present is to either use the serial number (year / week numbers) or to connect in DFU (not recovery) to your computer and check in device manager, it will show under the specific USB device. In this case, however, Leon is correct, Spirit is an untethered jailbreak. (It also doesn't pwn your LLB so you can't restore a custom firmware to a device jailbroken with Spirit).

You'll want to know whether you are on an old bootrom or new bootrom device though, in order to upgrade to iOS 4.0. If you're on old bootrom, you can run Spirit2Pwn and then upgrade using a custom iOS 4.0 ipsw. If you're on a new bootrom, doing that would brick your phone -- and you'd do well just to wait. But until we know what bootrom, you can't really make the decision.

    Good luck!
