Of course, it being a new install there is nothing in /var/lib/dpkg/updates or /var/lib/apt/lists, which are some of the standard broken cydia suggestions.

Any other ways to go about fixing this? Should I try to remove cydia.app (eg via diskaid) and re-jailbreak it?
What redsn0w version did you use? It is quite safe to simply run redsn0w again and only select "install cydia", I would try that as your first option.

Second option: install SSH via redsn0w - download the following bundle and use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to install it directly onto your phone http://sites.google.com/a/iphone-dev...edirects=0&d=1 - via the install custom bundle option.

Then look at this page.. for a troubleshooting procedure.

I ended up manually deleting cydia.app using diskaid, then reinstalling it using redsn0w. Any attempt to add ssh through redsn0w resulted in failure (blank screen mid way through installation process, then needed to reset my iphone).

In any case, it's all working now: jailbroken, unlocked 4.2.1, with old baseband. Thanks to all for their help!
