3G Future Unlock Questions for DevTeam
Given that the DevTeam has previously warned those who wish to unlock the 3G in the future to avoid baseband upgrades, I assume that the unsigned code expoit is in the main baseband and not the bootroom or bootloader. The bootrom and bootloader are not changed in a BB FW upgrade, so upgrading should not affect exploits present in these, especially since BB downgrades have been demonstrated.
However, given the new 3G baseband updates users may wish to upgrade the BB FW to tackle 3G reception issues. So my questions are as follows:
1) Is the unsigned code exploit still present in the current revsions of the baseband? If so, is it safe for future-would-be-unlockers to upgrade?
2) If the exploit is not present in the current revsions of the baseband, would you consider releasing it? This would allow more people (who have not upgraded) to work on the 3G unlock.

1) They do not currently have any specific exploit to focus on, but obviously more and more loopholes close with each new revision. They're telling you not to upgrade because it's the safest thing to do. There is no guarantee that upgrading will eliminate the possibility of unlocking, but there's a good chance.
2) Again, they don't (to the best of my knowledge anyway) have a specific exploit pinned down as the cornerstone of the 3G unlock.
Finding the exploit is 99% of the battle, so its not like they know how to get in and they're just keeping it from us. Once they get it, the carrier lock will fall like a house of cards.

I am talking about the unsigned code exploit specifically. Of course, this is not an unlock yet, but it's a specific exploit in the baseband which might lead us there. From the DevTeam Blog:
We have accomplished this by being able to execute our own code on the baseband...
