2G Iphone not restoring
I'm trying to help my friend out, has an iphone 2g that was on at&t, could not restore it so he upgraded. I was able to use pwnage tool to create a custome restore to 2.2.1 but when boot neuter started it hung on determining settings. I have downloaded iphone FW 2.0 and 2.2 and have tried restoring in DFU mode but now the iphone is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore to original FW 2.2.1. It continues to get could not restore errors. I'm really stuck and can't figure this out. I was able to pwn 2 prior iphones but am wondering if this phone is "bricked" and what options I have to fix this problem.

Which error code is iTunes throwing while you're trying to recover?

Im at work so I cant specify but its been a range from 1600 to 23 or so. I had the phone install the custom FW2.2.1 but since it hung on bootneuter for an hour or so I powered it down. Now its back to Itunes recory mode but cant restore. Do I need a specific version of pwn and itunes? Was using the current version of both and no love yet.

One thing you might try that worked for me in the past on both error 1600 and 21 was to completely uninstall iTunes, removing AppleMobileDevice.kext in /System/Library/Extensions and AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg in /Library/Receipts/. (Re)Install iTunes 8.1.1 (newest version). Try using PwnageTool 2.2.5.

Will this enable me to install FW 2.1? I read from other post that this fixes boot neuter from hanging and not working. Is there a possible baseband issue with the phone? I didnt think 2g phone could be killed

After reinstalling iTunes, enter DFU mode like you normally would and hold option and click restore to select the ipsw for the firmware you want to install. There shouldn't be a baseband problem with the phone. Something likely just interrupted BootNeuter's file copying.
