Default 2G iPhone - No Service ! Please HELP !!!

    Hello everybody ...

I've had an iPhone 2G for the past year ... I have been using it unlocked ever since, and the last 2 months I was on 2.1 version by Pwnage ... Everything was working great until today ... My iPhone is stuck at "No Service" and it can't receive or make calls ... I already restored, made a new custom firmware with pwnage and reset the network settings ... NOTHING WORKS !!!! Please help, I'm desperate !!

Check your SIM on another phone. I had a similar problem and it was because my SIM died, I had to call T-Mobile and they told me it was exactly 5 years and I needed a new one.

    From 2.0.2

Already did, and it works on my other phone .. I am starting to believe that this is a hardware problem ( probably the antenna ?? ) ... Yesterday, when I left my house, at one moment I checked my iPhone and suddenly I was getting full signal ... Then after a while the signal dropped again ... Any ideas ???

    Hi iNikolas:

I have the same problem that you have. My iphone (more than a year old) was working just find until suddenly lost signal and No Service message that won’t go away (wasn’t using the phone when it happened, got into no signal building). My SIM card is working on my SE K790 perfectly. We share that I am on T-mobile, had 2.1 when it happened, upgrade from 2.0.2. My iphone was 1.0.1 or 1.0.1 OOTB when new. I had gone to great extend to try to make the iphone work again with little success. I am not sure this is a hardware thing just because it doesn’t make sense that that I have got signal after playing with some unlock methods and after a few minute is gone. Hardware thing don’t tend to be intermittent (the possibility is there). I smell something fishy here. Can someone with real expertise help us. Anything else that can be done to try to fix the bootloader or baseband, I think that there is the problem if it not hardware.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Steps:
    1. Installed Bootneuter, try to play with it, nothing worked (4.6 to 3.9, relock, unlock, etc) Settings didn’t stick, got errors.
    2. Downgraded to 1.1.4 through itunes 7.5
    3. Downgraded and erase the baseband with the patched Ziphone version
    4. Restore to pwnage 1.1.4, unlock. Still No Service
    6. Played with Bootneuter. Settings stick, flash run but still No Service. Last setting 3.9 and relock.
    5. Downgrade to 1.1.1. Can’t jailbreak. Nothing worked (iliberty+, independece, idemocracy, appinstaller, ibrick) nothing.
    6. Downgraded to 1.0.2 couldn’t jailbreak (tried all of the above). Finally jailbreak it with ijailbreak. Activated and unlocked with independece. No Service
    7. Installed BDS Subsystem and The Virginizer using wifi.
    8. Restore to regular 1.1.4. Jailbreak, activate and unlock. Got signal. Test call to my home phone worked. Thought that I did it. After few minutes No Service Again.
    9. Installed Bootneuter. After getting into it and out. Got signal again. Test call worked. After few minutes No Service Again.
    10. Change my IMEI with Ziphone 3.0 thinking that somehow Tmobile was blocking the iphone. Got signal again. Test call worked. Tried some 406-3 thing I saw in youtube. Didn’t worked.
    11. Upgrade my baseband again to 4.6 with Bootneuter. No luck, No Service.
    12. Installed friends T-mobile sim card. No Service
    13. Installed friends AT&T sim card. No Service
    14. Run out of ideas. HELP!!!

Ellopr, you really did try everything you could ! I think that it must be a hardware problem, because if something was wrong with the settings, then the signal must have been always down or up .. The fact that it keeps coming back and then getting lost again, it shows that something must be wrong hardware-wise .. Also, it doesn't explain the fact that the problem occured overnight, where nothing in the settings was changed ..
I really don't know what else to try ... Here are some things that I have tried :

    1) I tried my Sim card on another phone ... It works perfectly ... Thus the Sim card is not the problem ..

    2) I tried a Sim card from another network ... Although I get better reception and the signal is on for more time, it occationally drops ... I guess that the signal of the other network is stronger in my area, and the antenna can reach it better ( ? ) That's why I think that my antenna is damaged and keeps losing signal ..

I'm taking it tomorrow for service ... If someone else can help, please do so ..

    EDIT

    Found this ..

    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=xCBq1e...eature=related

This IS exactly my problem !!! There are times were I get a signal and I can make calls and then all of a sudden the signal drops and then "no service" .. The poster said that he changed his comm board and then everything was ok ..

Hi everybody that is going through this problem. I finally get my iphone to work. Like I though it was not a hardware thing so to speak and it was I think. what I did is that I trade my communication board with another iphone and my iphone is working and the other iphone is too. I think that at the end it was due to a bad connection between the logic board and the communication board. My iphone had fallen many times during this past year, so I think it finally took a toll in it. I suggests to anyone that is going through this that just as a check, open their iphone (if you are out of the one year warranty you have nothing to loose, the communication board is easy accessible without heavy disassemble) and disconnect and reconnect the comm board. Just as to check. Like I said I haven't trade the board back so I don't know for sure if it was the trade that did it or it was a bad connection that could have being fixed by simply disconnect and reconnect. Is your problems continue try a REAL GOOD FRIEND that is willing to let you try to use their comm board and see if that is your problem.

Just as I thought ! Ellopr, just HOW difficult is the dissasembly/assembly process ??? I have seen the "ifix it" guide, but a few parts ( like the one with the glue on the antennas ) have scared me ..
