Default [2.1] Strange things happening - upgrade from 2.0.2 requires no pwn?

    Hi,
i updated my pwned 2.0.2 iPhone with iTunes to 2.1 (stock update - real original not pwned firmware!). Now the Phone restarted and worked perfectly as before. I didn't need to Pwn or unlock the phone and it works fine. I restarted and it still works perfectly.

Is this working as intended or do i just have luck?

    Hi

    Thatís normal on 2G units

When you upgrade a 2G phone running any 2.x firmware the Baseband isnít modified from 04.05.04 so the phone will automatically activate.

But what does happen is you lose the jailbreak and consequently any third part Applications like Installer/Cydia

Good to know that you can go straight to it!

Though would still like some cydia/installer apps.

has anyone tested a pwned 2.1 iphone versus an pwned 2.0.x upgraded to 2.1 ? It feels as though the battery lasts more and the performance is faster on an upgrade.

It's a 2G iPhone. Thanks for the replies. That clears it up a bit. I didn't have any 3rd-party installer on it so i didn't notice that.

So upgrade to 2.1 seems to work like a charm on pwned 2.0.x devices. I would prefer that approach, too. But what about the "[if you upgrade] you automatically lose about 500mb of disk space and never recover it until you finally restore." mentioned on http://sleepers.net/2008/09/19/how-t...ade-in-itunes/ ?? Isn't that still true?

    Thx for any insights!
