Default [2.1 Mac Pwnage] All apps start crashing, need multiple restarts to sort

I've been an exceedingly annoying problem on my iPhone since 2.1.

Every few hours, most applications start crashing on launch. It's always a random subset Mail, Cydia, iPod, Safari and others will crash, but I can launch BossPrefs and reboot.

Post reboot, I notice Cydia, Settings, and Maps crashing... and BossPrefs too. I'll usually only try a few before restarting, but at least half of applications may become affected at any given time.

Respringing never helps. After a reboot, Mobile Substrate sometimes goes into safe mode, and sometimes the entire system freezes for several minutes at the lock screen before I can start using it.

After four or five reboots the system comes up normally... and the crashes start again after a few hours.

I have restored multiple times, rebuilt my IPSW in PwnageTool, and restored without restoring from backup.

I've even observed Cydia crashing ON THE FIRST BOOT AFTER A RESTORE, before iTunes has even seen the device.

    WTH?! Anyone else seen this?

I have pretty much the same issue going on, also used Mac PwnageTool for 2.1.

So....I believe it is because my iPhone and iTunes are reporting zero kb free space. Not true, and I shouldn't trust everything that a 3rd party app says, but I know from experience that Apple's SW can lie just the same. So hopefully (if you can call it that, we have the same problem, check your free space).

I synced right now, got rid of some podcasts.
    Now, itunes says I have:
    51.8MB free.

    BossPrefs says that I have:
    159MB of 500MB free on /
    195 MB of 7.1GB free on /private/var.

I know there's two partitions, but come on iTunes/BossPrefs, neither of these add up to either of these partitions.

    ^^^
So, scratch all that.....because I thought the apps crashed because they needed more space. Not true. There is something else going on. That was me thinking out loud.

Also, I frequently repair permissions using BossPrefs, but only a restart fixes (albeit temporarily) the issue.

iTunes isn't reporting 0KB free, but let's see:

    Code:
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/disk0s1 512000 421532 85348 84% /
    devfs 26 26 0 100% /dev
    /dev/disk0s2 7417620 6419680 997940 87% /private/var
OK, so plenty of free space... but the issue isn't happening right now. It's a promising diagnosis! I'll check again when apps are crashing (assuming I can ssh in or get MobileTerminal running).

OK, caught the system during a state when apps are crashing. Plenty of free space, but this showing up in dmesg output:

Hmm, OK, but just a couple of hours ago this was happening to all of my apps. All, like, 54 of them. Stock, App Store, and Cydia applications. Except Phone. But then I tried to make a call, and that crashed too.

I just restored and QuickPwned (Mac 1.1). We'll see if that's better than PwnageTool.

Great (well, kinda) to hear that I'm not the only one having this problem.

Restored and QuickPwned, restored latest backup. No crashes for the first day (well, evening and morning), but they're already starting to come back. Only Mail and Camera crashed so far, took a few reboots before Mail would launch.

Not solved. I'll keep changing variables, seeing if I can catch where it starts.

I am having a little less problems than yours.. but it is also very very annoying.

after upgrading to FW 2.1 using Mac Pwnage, my iPhone working normal and stable, but sometime during standby mode, it just stack there - blank-. No response to home button and power button.
So I must reset it.. press home button and power button for 10 sec and it will reboot and back to working normal.

I have restored using a new ipsw build with only Cydia installed (no SSH, no Installer). Just fresh without any other application but the problem still exist.
I have disabled wi-fi, bluetooth, auto-lock... etc but my iPhone still stack after a long hours.. sometime could be a day.. but sometime only a few hours.

It is very annoying because I have to check my phone everytime just to make sure it is not in 'stack' mode... during this 'stack' mode, my phone could not receive any call or sms...

So is there any solution or suggestion please share here..

    Thanks a lot.

Same issues with my friends phone. I unlocked it with Mac Pwnage with FW 2.1 as mine.

Today his phone crashes on almost any application I start. Restart doesn't help at all. We are talking about legit iTunes Apps and Cydia installed ones.

    Very strange.

Occasionally his phone is also unresponsive when it rings. You can't slide the slider to pick up the call. Weird...
