[2.0] When The Final comes out can we only update ?

I have a winpwn'd phone... when the new firmware comes out and we can customize it.. when in itunes, rather than restoring to the new firmware will we safely be able to upgrade? meaning we wont have to reinstall everything for the milionth time, and change numbers over etc etc?

Think of it this way...

1.2 / 2.0 is a pretty significant change to *EVERYTHING*.

Many extensions that existed previously are just gone now or have been replaced with completely different things.

While it will certainly be a trivial manner for unmodified iPhones to update given the work that Apple is needing to place into the whole process, upgrading patched ones will likely not go as smoothly.

Can one upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows Vista... in theory, yes.
Has anyone ever tested it and is able to get it to do so without causing serious issues?

That is another story.

I dont think that an update would keep your installed programs functioning... remember how the file structure changed from 1.1.2 - 1.1.3(or what is 1.1.1 - 1.1.2?)... None of the old programs were compatible until they changed the coding. Im thinking its going to be something like that.. All the programs wont function until they have all been rewritten for the new firmware. Just a guess

Well, when the final 2.0 comes out...

It'd be an upgrade most likely...

But because of the amount of the OS it changes, it'd take the same amount of time as a restore XD.
