This guy has posted a working solution on his site. I tried it it works....Probably the key lies in changing the var folder files too....

    Original Question

Could somebody please post a fix for Vodafone India EDGE settings.

After the iPhone has offically been launched in India, iTunes now recognizes Vodafone as a partner Carrier thus hiding the cellular data settings.

I am unable to use EDGE on my Phone now.

    Please help ............

build you custom carrier bundle (use the standard version) and install it on your iPhone. Custom readme comes with the bundle

@Volkspot : I tried using your method using putty but I was unsuccessful. Do we have to change any permissions through WinSCP??.

Also can iPhonebrowser be used ?

It would be great if someone could post a fix using CYdia as a lot of people in India do not have WiFi

    The Details are as follows:

    Bundle Name - Vodafone_IN
    Carrier Name - Vodafone_IN
    Supported SIM (Your MCC/MNC) - 40420
    Logo text - Vodafone

I have always used WinSCP to copy the bundle into
    /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/

You then have to SSH then into the iPhone to create the symlink. if you forget that, it wont work. On that site you need to hit the button "Download standard carrier bundle", thats the one you would have to use. Unzip the download and you will find the how-to.
After SFTP and copy & create the symlink (remember to rename the existing one as described in the readme that comes with the download), restart the iPhone and it will work.
