[2.0.2] How to DFU with broken wake/sleep button?
I have a 2G iPhone and unfortunatley the sleep/wake button does not work. I had been running 1.1.1 on the phone and decided to go for 2.0.X. I *thought* I'd just do a restore to Apple's original 2.0.2 and then use QuickPwn to jb and unlock. After doing the 2.0.2 restore I realized that QP asks for the phone to be put into DFU mode. That's when I realized this might be a long night.
As I cannot manually enter DFU and (from reading a little) it seems that software can't put the phone into DFU what can I do next to move forward? Right now I have a virgin 2.0.2 sitting at the EMER screen awaiting activation...
Ps: I have another PC that had iTunes 7.6 and I uninstalled it and installed 7.5 and about to give iLiberty+ a try to get it to DFU mode but I am not hopefull ...

Use iLiberty+ to put it into DFU

does not work if firmware on the phone is 2.x
I think you are better off waiting for winpwn 2.5. It will be out tomorrow and hopefully its dfu helper may work.

No go with the iTunes 7.5 and iLiberty...
The phone is put into regular recovery mode and not DFU.

I can second that. Had that with iTunes 7.5/7.6 and iLiberty on my Mac. Hitting DFU mode but ending in simple restore/recovery. I really hope Winpwn 2.5 will come with a solution.

Is there any information on this DFU helper? I am afraid it's just a guide/help for the user to put the phone in DFU mode (much like QuickPwn RC3) rather than an actual software method. If that were the case, what are my options? Can I warranty the device? It's not been a year. How do I handle the obvious question of "The phone looks it's been used - even dropped - but it's not even activated?"

Oh god... you're right. I remember now that when I did that I got the Steve Jobs image on the iPhone.
I had to use iLiberty+ to go from 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 as I was having the issue where I couldn't get my phone into DFU by holding the buttons.
What impact will that have had (if any)? - my iPhone is running 2.0.2 and it's working beautifully

no problem if it is working beautifully with 2.0.2 ...

update
Ok, so here is the path I took - I had a second iPhone. I opened both phones and used the back plate (which houses the sleep/wake switch) of the working phone to just get past the DFU stage. So since i was already at 2.0.2 i figure just need to do a quickpwn and finally be home. It seems tonight is not meant to be: went through the initial steps in QP. Followed the instructs for going into DFU per on screen steps. The application then started "Uploading exploit bootloader..." and all of a sudden my Windows popped up a message (in the system tray) that a USB Device not Recognized and one USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned. The iphone screen is blank (i.e. it seems to me to be off). And to top it off, the phone will NOT turn back on. Is the phone stuck in DFU mode? And what's with the Windows error? I have rebooted the PC and the same result. As soon as i connect the phone the same USB errors... What did QP do and where do I go from here???
Edit: I also plugged the iphone to the other PC that has itunes 7.5 and once connected, Windows detected a new USB device and started the Found New Hardware Wizard". It's like the mode the phone is in right now is not something the driver for it is loaded/available??? Does any of this make sense?

Sorry for the multiple posts. I got past the "dead" iphone by just hold the sleep/wake and home for a while. Then the phone rebooted... So it must have been in some mode... Still can't get into DFU in order to restore a custom firmware... But that's something I can deal with right now...
