[2.0][2.0.1] Holding out for unlock? May have to think again!
Just want to say that 2.0 and 2.0.1 are both causing problems even for those phones now updated to 2.0.2. I know this is tough decision, i.e., update now or hold off until the dev team comes up with the unlock, because unless most, if not all, update our iPhones to the latest version, the call-drop issue will continue.

I've had no problems at all. I'm at 2.0.2 but with 2.0 baseband. All working fine. Never had a dropped call, ever.

I am also on 2.0.2 with the 2.0 baseband and have never had a dropped call. I have an iPhone 3G 16GB Black.

I have an 8Gb 3G iphone with 2.0.0 firmware and modem firmware 01.45.00 (USA, locked to AT&T). I have been holding off updating to 2.0.2 as I thought it would update my baseband and lessen my chances of any future unlock. I DID update to 2.0.1 when it came out and lost my signal and then went back to 2.0.0 and signal came back. And have sat tight ever since!
Are you guys saying I can update to 2.0.2 and KEEP the 1.45 baseband? How can I do that? I have both PC and Mac BTW (hackintosh) so can use either Pwn tool. Havent explored most recent Pwns as kind of put updating on hold until DevTeam announcement. Can the newer apps keep 2.0.0 baseband for 3Gs?
Thanks.

pwnage tool --- expert mode ---- disable baseband update.

Worked perfectly. Now on 2.02 with 1.45 baseband.
Many thanks!

Right now, the 3g baseband 1.45 is absolutely the best publicly-released baseband to have if you are looking ultimately for a 3g software unlock. So, it's good that you kept it via expert mode

Hi MuscleNerd. Is baseband version 1.48 so different than 1.45? If so is it even more difficult to unlock? Thanx in advance

I used the pwnage tool to upgrade my 3G phone from
2.0-2.01->2.1 and I've never used the expert mode, however, I am still on the baseband 1.45 that came with 2.0. At least my understanding is that custom image from pwnage does not upgrade your baseband.
What has baffled me is that even though I'm an older version of baseband 1.45 after upgrading to 2.1 I see tremendous improvement in connectivity, full bars most place. My signal is comparable to friends at work who have vanilla 2.1.
I believe the only way to upgrade to the latest baseband 02.11.07 that came with 2.1 is to run a vanilla upgrade and then either use pwnage or Quickpwn to jailbreak the phone.
My theory is that whatever got fixed in the new baseband has alleviated the congestion on the 3G towers (as most folks have moved to 2.1) thereby giving iphones on older baseband an improved signal as well.
Regards, Mandeep
