If they're not running, they can't be doing anything.

If I remove Cydia, will I be able to install Installer later on (when the new version is released), and how will I be able to do it?

The only way without Cydia would be to have Pwnage Tool offer Installer as an option when building custom firmware, and then do a restore.

sorry but this is wrong info... so i won't trust you on this...

FYI, I had a iphone 3G - STOCK and I had resets ALL the time. with 0 cydia, 0 jailbreak....

my phone will dial someone and the screen will shut off and I have to put my thumb over the earpiece to have my screen show up again.

(reverse polarity on the light sensor). all iphone 2.0 OS issues. Cydia has nothing to do with it...

I have to back pumpkin... I never installed cydia either but today my settings panel took a while to load and my iPhone has been pretty stable for days prior to this.

So it could be appstore apps or the OS giving me issues.

This is a good point actually. I have only ever restored with Cydia and NO other optional packages checked. I have seen no problems except the flakiness of the App Store Apps. I always start with just Installer or just Cydia then install everything on top via the software. I have never seen any problems in doing it this way.

I installed the pwned 2.0 firmware and then restored the settings from itunes. I got a lot of issues with it (i read afterward that I shouldn't do this)
    1) the mail app was crashing - this was a quick fix - sshed into the phone deleted the mail settings and then i synced it with itunes.
    2) gprs wasn't working at all - it wouldn't connect.
    3) when i was changing settings the settings app was crashing
After this i restored the phone with the same ipsw pwn2.0 created earlier and all my problems went away, although I didn't have my settings.
    Now the phone works flawlessly.
    As a side note -
My phone's touchscreen had a bad strip on it. I've had it for 3 months, during this time I learned to live with it - I modified the touch sensitivity, but because of this my phone's springboard was crashing. I won't get into further details with it, enough to say that it would crash around 2 times a day. When I installed the 2.0 version it didn't crash for 3 days (the 3rd day being the day when I got my replacement touchscreen ).

Are others seeing this much instability? Is this a result of the kernel patching by PwnageTool, or is it just a buggy OS?
Buggy OS - I have a 1st generation, legally Orange unlocked so I have not yet jailbroken - crashes all the time. It seems to happen if I open and close many apps.

Phone reboots. First day of 2.0 it rebooted 3 times. Also battery life went way down.

I took all Apps off and battery is a little better now.
