    Arrow [1.1.4][IPSF vs 4.6 on PWNAGE] What are the possible problems?

    One of my friends has an iPhone from iDay, hence he has 3.9 Bootloader. However, he moved to Central America en October and unlocked with iPhone SimFree (IPSF).

    Problem is he now wants to take advantage of what Pwnage has to offer. He and I also are wondering what would updating your Bootloader (if you have IPSF unlock) from a 3.9 to 4.6 do to your iPhone. Would the unlock disappear or would the iPhone brick?

    Assuming that you are on 1.1.1 and up, you should have no problems with using PWNAGE or bootneuter despite your IPSF unlocking. The bootloader itself doesn't control the unlock, it just controls the flashing of firmware to the baseband (which results in an unlock). Even if the unlock does disappear, bootneuter does unlock your phone, and you can always run IPSF again.

    True, but wouldn't using bootneuter with the Unlock option allow reunlock it.

    Anyways I wondered because I know 4.6 bootloader does not allow any kind of IPFS unlocks since it has been patched heavily to prevent such things. Hence me asking since my friend and I don't want a paperweight.

    Just remember if you update your bootloader to 4.9 from an original 3.9 phone and you need to return the phone under warrenty, make sure you flash to your original bootloader (3.9 in your case).

    Yeah, thanks for that, I've read all about the warranty, but it doesn't worry us since him and I were originally activated on AT&T. We just don't want a mishap that requires Apple taking a look into the device...

    Why would you want to upgrade the bootloader when it came with 3.9?

    It wouldn't cause a problem but its totally uneccessary.

    And IPSF/Pwnage is in the FAQ if you had read it first!
    iPhone US 8GB
    FW 1.0.2--> iUnlock--> iPhoneSIMfree--> 1.1.1 --> 1.1.2--> Soft upgrade 1.1.3 --> 1.1.4 using signal.app
    iPhone UK 16GB
    FW 1.1.3 OOB --> 1.1.4 --> iPlus 1.2 unlocked!

    <----If I helped you out, rep points are always nice (thanks for that idea!)

    For whatever reason he wants 4.6 is his business. I asked the same and I got his answer. As for the FAQ, it wasn't necessary to write it in exclamations, just a normal sentence does the trick.

    I used to have geohots ipsf but reversed in preparation for bootneuter. Note that you need your nor backup or seczone in order to reverse it.

    Agreed. You should restore your rsa token before using pwnage. We know that pwnage will work over the ipsf unlock. A problem may arise if you decide to upgrade the bootloader to 4.6 then get rid of pwnage by restoring to an official apple firmware. The exploit that the ipsf unlock uses does not exist in the 4.6 bootloader.
    My guess is that your phone will NEED to be unlocked to be usable. That is, if you decide to go legit with AT&T and remove all hacks/unlocks, your phone would not work.
    I don't think there's anyone out there who really knows exactly what will happen with a phone that:
    -ipsf unlocked without rsa token/seczone restored
    -on 4.6 bootloader
    -factory fresh software state, no hacks/unlocks

    Personally, I'd love to find out if anyone wants to answer this question :p
