[1.1.4 - 2.0] [Pwnage Tool] Update vs. Restore for new firmwares on Pwned iPhone?
I'd asked this a long time ago and never was able to come up with any answer either way.
But I'm wondering if when using an already pwned iphone and updating to newer firmwares. Will we be able to use the "update" route in itunes or must we use "restore"? Either for the 2.0 software or for subsequent point releases.
I know that 2.0 is only just out, but people have been playing with beta's for a while now. Or anyone from Dev that can shed some light on this?
I only ask because of having to reload everything every time. Whether there would be an issue with compatibility of older apps and changes to the iphone software. Or being able to retain settings etc.
I suppose this would be partly solved by pre-packaging apps into the ipsw. but if there's an update. any changes in the apps would be wiped out.
As an aside question. Do either/both "restore" or "update" through itunes completely wipe the phones memory as it pertains to installed apps through Installer?
Just curious about the update path for Pwnage 1.1.4 users and options available.
Thanks.

Thanks.
Even 'official' iPhones will have their data wiped out when upgrading to 2.0
The solution for official iPhones is a full backup in iTunes. But you can't backup in iTunes your Installer stuff. Another solution may be provided by iBaReS, an app to back up iPhone third party data. But I doubt it will work with 2.0
So, I think you'll have to start from scratch, one more time.
Adding apps to your custom firmware is probably the best way to go
Pwned OOTB 1.1.1 iPhone 8 Gb
