With the help of the Automator programm “Fix DFU 10.5.6″ users with Mac OS X 10.5.6 will be able to use the iPhone in DFU mode with iTunes. DFU mode is needed if you want to use PwnageTool or Quickpwn for the first time.

Mac OS X 10.5.6 was released on December 15th, 2008. It disables recognition of a device (like the iPhone) in DFU mode. It is not known if this is intentionally disabled by Apple or just a bug.

The Automator programm offers a one click solution to replace two plugin kexts with the ones from Mac OS X 10.5.5 and then rebuild the kextcache. After an automatic reboot DFU mode will be enabled at Mac OS X 10.5.6.

You don’t question the Jobs.  You don’t speak unless spoken to.  You have a problem with what He does?  No, you don’t, you’re wrong, period.

Luckily, this guy escaped with his life, but I’m sure Jobs was fuming and spewing profanities as he was typing.  I guess it could take a while for the hitman to get from California to wherever this guy lives anyway, so maybe I’m speaking too soon.

Inside the Mac

Apple parts reseller iFixIt has just completed its photo disassemblies of the new MacBook and MacBook Pro, and notes that the design of both machines are largely inspired by the MacBook Air, with the 13-inch model structurally resembling a 13-inch version of the new MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro Disassembly Guide

As part of its 15-inch MacBook Pro disassembly, iFixIt noted that:

  • Upgrading the RAM and hard drive is very easy, but you do need a Torx screwdriver to replace the hard drive.
  • Contrary to some fears, the keyboard in the MacBook Pro is user-serviceable. It’s a fair amount of work to remove (you have to remove 56 screws).
  • The AirPort and Bluetooth boards are in the display assembly. The AirPort card is user-serviceable, while the Bluetooth board is not.

There’s no question about it, the new LED display is pretty slick.  I would buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money, but I figure that I can save about $600 by just buying a no name (read: any non-apple brand) display and sticking an Apple sticker on it.  It really is insane that they think they can get away with charging $900 for a simple 24″ display, but I truly lost faith in humanity when I realized that this display is compatible with a total of 3 different computer models.  Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air; That’s it.
