I'm trying to unlock an iphone 4 (4.1) to work on Bell Mobility up in Canada. The phone is an AT&T carrier. I ran Limera1n and got cydia installed. I'm getting the error in itunes that says sim card is invalid for carrier. Do I need to hacktivate through cydia? Sorry for the noob questions but I thought I could get this working.
Did u activate with an AT&T sim and this error happens when u replace ur canadian sim card? Try going to cydia, add cydia.pushfix.info . Find and install the hacktivation patch.
I tried running the Hackivation Patch but I get the error
'The requested modifications cannot be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed' I thought this error was because I am running 4.1 and the patch lists 4.0 or 4.01?
I activated the phone with the ATT sim and have been using it for an ipod for a few weeks and installed the limera1n lastnight and tried my Bell sim but I'm not having any luck. Thanks for your replies!
I think limera1n for iphone4 4.1 is for jailbreak only. You still need to unlock it with ultrasn0w. Unlock for 4.1 is not yet available for few days.
Did you get to 4.1 via tinyumbrella, preserving your 1.59.00 baseband? If so, just run ultrasnow with your unsupported sim inside. Otherwise, you cant unlock that phone yet, or anytime soon.
totono8 is 100% correct. The baseband included with iOS 4.1 is not currently able to be unlocked, and there is no current solution to downgrade the baseband on an iPhone4 w/ iOS 4.1.

If that's the case, unlocking 4.1 burns a baseband exploit for little to no reason.
An extremely high percentage of iPhone 4 users are running 4.0.2 or previous, meaning that the current jailbreakme.com solution + ultrasn0w unlock target the majority of the hardware owners. Unlocking the 4.1 baseband really serves only to close the hole used for the exploit, as releasing it this far before 4.2 comes out will likely ensure that 4.2 includes a fix for the issue.
I personally hope they do not release an unlock for 4.1 -- the more work that Apple does on these basebands, the more difficult it has been for them to be reliably unlocked -- I don't want to see a valid exploit publicized specifically for the small percentage of users who unfortunately find themselves with a locked phone on the 4.1 baseband, only to find that 4.2 closes the hole and all the new hardware is not able to be unlocked.
In either case, get your SHSH on file with Firmware Umbrella for a little peace of mind in the iPhone sense, and make sure in the future that you pay special attention if you rely on an unlock.
With ALL of that said, however, it's possible that your phone was upgraded to 4.1 but that the baseband wasn't upgraded (you would have had to use TinyTSS or Firmware Umbrella and modified the hosts file to do an iOS upgrade without the baseband), so if you can, please find out the specific Modem Firmware and let us know -- there's an extremely slim chance that you're not completely out of luck....
