Do I need to remove Hacktivation?(Jailbroken with Limera1n & Unlocked:3GS iOS 4.0.1)

Hi guys,
Since I ended up with crashed my iPhone 3GS(New BootRom) after installed the Mobile Substrate update patch (weeks ago :rolleyes: ), I had to restore it to a same firmware iOS 4.0.1.

Here, I have my original activation SIM and no need to relay on any Hacktivation! but I need an unlock cz I'm using a different Operator. So I did was,
first activated my phone using iTunes. then did the jailbreak (Limera1n) & unlocking!!!

As I go through with some articles,blog posts in meant time, I found that limera1n might cause battery drain and crashes in push notifications.(Hacktivation dynamic lib?) Since my phone status is still new, I couldn't verify these things in my phone yet, but i have always doubts on my mind.
So can anyone please tell me that, do I need to remove this ahcktivation.dylib file as @Olethros mentioned ? or keep this patch as it is?

Since you are running on an unofficial carrier, you do need hacktivation in some way, shape, or form as the new firmwares will de-activate every time the SIM is removed and check the SIM when a replacement is inserted. Arguably, limera1n's hacktivation is the 'shotgun to kill a mosquito' approach, but it should function nevertheless -- though as you mentioned you will have facetime activation problems and push notification issues. You can fix those with push doctor from Cydia or pushfix, that will generate the unique certs needed for the device.

I don't think you need to go through all the hassle of removing the current activation and re-hacktivating unless you're having some of the more serious issues (battery life, push issues), but it *would* be the most "proper" way to do what you're looking for. The hacktivation done by redsn0w / PwnageTool is more reliable and robust and doesn't cause as many issues as limera1n does.

Generally I concur

the limera1n hacktivation mostly becomes a problem if you ever get hold of a legitimate SIM card and want to switch to activating legitimately. In that case you *absolutely* need to remove limera1n's hacktivation.

just another two things I need to be clear,

1) If I do a 'plutil' and remove the lockdown, do I need to re-install the ultrasnow and run the unlock again to use it with another operator? (after re-activated with my legitimate SIM)

Or else

2) If I do a restoring again to a factory 4.0.1(JailBreakMe) it will not caused this Hacktivation problem. but i have this doubt,
When 1st time I connect to iTunes, if I choose to restore from latest backup (without treated as new one) can this Hacktivation affect to sys libraries again?

Now that SAM is released - http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/194306.htm - the whole situation has changed.

SAM gives legitimate activation via iTunes - for users who run ultrasn0w.

As far as I know, SAM does not yet offer automatic removal of limera1n/blackra1n hacktivation - it does have the ability to remove hacktivation as configured by redsn0w.

SAM is not required if you don't use ultrasn0w to unlock.
