Default Snow Leopard 10.6 kexts for Asus U81 laptop

    Hello there,

I have an Asus laptop U81 which has the following specs:

Asus U81A-RX05 running Windows Vista Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 Processor, 2.10 GHz
4 GB RAM and 320 GB HD
    AsusTek U80A Motherboard
    Intel GM45/GM47 Chipset
    Intel GMA 4500MHD Graphics

I can't seem to find the right kexts to get the following to work:

    1) keyboard and mouse of the laptop (USB works great with plug in)
    2) graphics card (to get right resolution)
    3) wifi card to get internet access

I appreciate your help if anyone can point me to the right drivers for this machine Thanks again!

    sincerely, Albert

    Hi there,
What wifi card is in your laptop? I guess that you will need to find out.
    1- you can try VoodooPS2controller.kext and AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext
2- There is no kext available for that 4500 series yet.
3- You may need to use a USB wifi if no kext for the internal wifi chipset.
Go to kexts.com and download your kexts and kext installer.
    Regards,

    1) I just tried VoodooPS2controller.kext and AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext and I got the internal keyboard to work.

    2) The trackpad doesn't work still, just only the USB mouse

    3) What is a USB wifi? I presume an external wifi USB keycard?

I just need to get the wifi, screen resolution modification, and trackpad and I will be happy enough.

Also, what is the programming for the boot up to modify the screen resolution?

I think there is a kext for the Intel GMA 4500MHD Graphics Card at kext.com.

I have the same laptop, and I'm having a hard time with the install. What distro did you use?

    Thanks
    Quan

    Hi there,
There are several version of the PS2 controller, so you need to find one that will work with trackpad. Mine on both Leopard 10.5.8 and Snow Leopard 10.6.2 work without any modification.
You need to post your wifi chipset model and device ID so people can help you out with the right kext.
    Regards,

    Hi there,
If you could go with the retail DVD method then it is considered better than any distros.

    Hi, ratvn.

I've read a little about using the retail DVD and looked pretty hard to me. I'll check it out again, maybe it's easier than I think. Would you know of a particular guide?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes, I agree. The retail DVD method is a little more complicated for installation, but there are certain advantages that people tend to lean toward instead of using distros. That is why you'll see more of those guides posted.
While it is somewhat similar among them, those guides are geared for specific hardware most of the times. So it depends on your particular CPU, chipsets, etc. and resources to select what suits your need.
Look around and you'll find some. Good luck.
    Regards,
