External monitor issues, Samsung N110

Hi,

I have a Samsung N110 running 10.6.3 perfectly, however I can't get an external monitor to work.

Whenever I plug it in, both the netbook and monitor show garbled images (however the mouse pointer is visible and fine).

Any suggestions, modified GMA 950 kext perhaps.

Yes, Intel GMA 950 even with full QE/CI enabled still do that with the correct kext.
There may be method to enable proper dual display.
If I come across it I will let you know.

That would be great thanks. I'm an iPhone developer and need the screen real estate but can't afford to buy a new macbook for a few months.

I have come up with a solution to this problem.

The best thing to do is open terminal, type Extras/bin/var/mirroring off then plug in your external monitor and hit enter.

This will enable extended desktop and switch off mirroring. Then in displays in system prefs, drag the menu bar from one display to the other. This will put the dock and everything else on the extended display.

I now have my netbook sitting hidden out of the way with a Keyboard and mouse plugged in. I drop things like IM onto the netbook screen.

Typing on a 32" Samsung LCD with 1440x900 resolution.

Very happy. The only thing I would like to do is figure out how to switch off the display on the netbook so it's not sitting blank all day. I've yet to get brightness working either so it's on max.

I'm new to the forum, congratulations to everyone for it, it's really helpful.

I realize this is an old thread (3 years…) but I've just installed SL 10.6.3 on my Samsung NC-110 and everything works fine except the connection to an external monitor. I plug the display and it's recognized (display model name is ok) and there are a couple of display modes listed as possible configs in the display prefs. However, none of those settings seems to work, as the external display shows invariably "signal out of range". I've tried this with several displays and _every_ possible resolution available but I'm still getting the "signal out of range" message. The above solution does not work, has anyone else experienced this and know how to solve it?
