Hey, I know i'm a n00b but meh, what can I do? You know I said I had a custom EFI String installed, i'm not really sure about it, because I downloaded EFI Studio again and there's no 'remove' option for my graphics card, so I really didn't know what I did. I had a look at my com.apple.Boot.plist and it says this:Do I have to remove a string or something?Code:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> </dict> </plist>
It say's this in System Profiler.I don't know if any of this makes sense to you but i'l post it anyway.Code:GeForce 8500 GT: Chipset Model: GeForce 8500 GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0421 Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: xx.xx.xx - internal Displays: Display: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Display Connector:
Alright, that looks good. So do you have it working now?
Hi, no I haven't tried it yet. I was just making sure that it was ok to go ahead. Il post the results in like an hour.
:'( Didn't work. Same as usual. Booted fine, same text in System Profiler, and no QE/CL. Any other ideas?
:O I didn't know that! I just fired up iMovie and I got that 'one of your graphics cards...' message again. I'l try running CINEBENCH now. What do I have to look out for though? A drop in performance or something?
Hmmm...I ran CINEBENCH but apparently there was an error loading the file or something, so I tried Xbench, and here's the results.
I noticed that it tested Quartz and got a response. Does that mean I have QE/CL? If so, why is iMovie saying I don't?Code:Results 172.44 System Info Xbench Version 1.3 System Version 10.6.3 (10D573) Physical RAM 3072 MB Model MacPro2,1 Drive Type Hitachi HDT725050VLA360 CPU Test 170.55 GCD Loop 284.55 15.00 Mops/sec Floating Point Basic 136.92 3.25 Gflop/sec vecLib FFT 112.14 3.70 Gflop/sec Floating Point Library 268.97 46.84 Mops/sec Thread Test 314.77 Computation 395.00 8.00 Mops/sec, 4 threads Lock Contention 261.62 11.25 Mlocks/sec, 4 threads Memory Test 165.93 System 197.60 Allocate 279.35 1.03 Malloc/sec Fill 163.21 7935.79 MB/sec Copy 182.62 3771.95 MB/sec Stream 143.01 Copy 138.43 2859.16 MB/sec Scale 137.74 2845.71 MB/sec Add 147.14 3134.37 MB/sec Triad 149.47 3197.44 MB/sec Quartz Graphics Test 217.89 Line 173.03 11.52 Klines/sec [50% alpha] Rectangle 208.94 62.38 Krects/sec [50% alpha] Circle 176.75 14.41 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha] Bezier 207.26 5.23 Kbeziers/sec [50% alpha] Text 526.41 32.93 Kchars/sec OpenGL Graphics Test 85.72 Spinning Squares 85.72 108.74 frames/sec User Interface Test 288.05 Elements 288.05 1.32 Krefresh/sec
Mine is around 120 FPS with 10.6.2 in x86. For x64, the number would be a bit lower due to Xbench operation mode, not video card performance.
I don't have any clue for iMovie functionality. Maybe you can tell me
Hey, thanks again The thing is, iMovie is saying that my graphics card does not support QE, and when I fire up the DVD Player app, I get an error code 70017, saying that 'A valid video device could not be found for playback'. I looked it up and apparently it's to do with not having QE/CL enabled This thing is really pecking head now!
