Update> Used OSX86 tools to do the EFI string. Was straight forward to use. Unfortunately it didn't actually work! Rolled back to fresh install..

    Help?!

    Hi there,
I also got the NV 8400 GS with QE/CL and Quartz enable under Ideneb 10.5.8 and SL 10.6.2. During installation DO NOT select any NV driver but use graphic injection instead. Select ATY_init for NV injection. I have also heard others use NVinject.
    Good luck,

    Hi Mate,

That sounds excellent and I will probably go with SL as I want to run logic audio ..Did you use a distro for SL 10.6.2? Ok just ran Ideneb and selected the ati ATY_init and your right it bloody worked! yay!!!! So, just need to do the same with SL 10.6.2 now. Could you confirm which distro you used?

    Much obliged.

    Hi,
So did it work for you? It depends on hardware as I have an AMD and a couple of Intels so the installation methods are quite different. What do you use and did you install SL yet?
    Regards,

    Hi,
I am glad it worked for you as I was fighting with my 2 ATI cards, decided to give up and purchased that NV. It turns out that the cheap card ($15 after rebate for 8400 GS 512Mb) works so well that I got another one for my next system. As for installation, I used retail DVD method, the original OSX with minimal modification, and it results in the best system in terms of performance, system stability and upgradability. I have a couple of Intels using other distros but they don't seem to be as solid (I am still working on it).
    Regards,

    Hi,
Genuine Mac hardwares use OSX DVD just by itself for installation. Retail DVD method on PC means to use the DVD or its image with pre and/or post installation modification. Distros supply you with all modification in their DVD. There are only several (from a couple to a dozen, depends on hardware) kexts/files needed to be modified/replaced/deleted from a retail DVD to make your system run OSX. While the methods of retail DVD installation somewhat similar (albeit DVD, USB, hard drive sources to its partition destination), these kexts/files/kernels are specific to CPU type/family and its supporting chipsets ect..The more deviation from mac hardware, the more modified kexts/files needed to make it works.
So there is no one universal set of files that will work for every make/model motherboard. Hope this help to clarify your question, if any.
    Regards,
