Default enable DVI port Geforce GT240 1GB 10.6.5

i upgraded my aging geforce 7900GS 256MB to a GT240 1GB, and i cant boot with it, on the DVI port. it has 1 VGA, one DVI, and one HDMI. i can get QE/CI working (proven by adding widget and getting ripples/front row/ playing World of Warcraft... OPENGL. ) however, the 7900 seemed to perform WoW a bit better, which makes me think somethings up...

should i just do a clean install of snow leopard with a new myhack install? (when i originally installed it was with the 7900GS.)
and i am DONE with distros, after seeing the retail install side.

im thinking theres a graphics string somewhere i cannot find, and its screwing with the boot. if there are any geforce kexts installed, it will not boot on the DVI. but it WILL boot on the DVI if NO geforce kexts are installed.

    any1 have ne ideas?

update. did a fresh reload. currently using graphicsenabler=y and have full QE/CI. however, the DVI port on the video card STILL doesnt work. only the VGA port does. i have no idea about the HDMI port, as I have no HDMI devices.

if i remove the Geforce kexts, the computer will boot using the DVI, but will be in VGA mode. no QE/Ci. i can manually specify a resolution, and it will come up at the right resolution. i honestly am stumped.
    i have tried:
-Using a string in EFIStudio for a 9800GTX - same results as i have now
-use a custom built string with NVCAP info taken from NVCAPMAKER - DVI boots and recognizes card and string but no QE/CI and 1024x768. no progress.
-called an alternate nVidia rom at chameleon screen with graphicsenabler=y
-formatted drive and reloaded Snow Leopard with fresh copy of MYHack and 10.6.5 to get rid of any reference to old 7900. didnt work.

i feel like im missing something VERY simple here.
oh, and while on the VGA port, snow leopard has full QE/CI, but the OpenGL SUCKS. in world of warcraft, with resolution 1680x1050 and LOW graphics, getting around 28fps. with the 7900 i was at the same resolution with medium graphics getting around 50.
in windows 7 im at the same resolution with the graphics MAXED getting 60fps.
Left 4 Dead 2 (much beefier graphics) runs at 1680x1050 with everything maxed out and doesnt skip a beat. so i know its an OS X openGL issue.

talked to a buddy of mine who works at a computer repair shop. he said he doesnt know much about macs, but it sounds like the operating system is using a generic driver. is it even possible to get an OS X driver directly from nVidia?

okay, update. still will not boot on DVI. however, if i boot on VGA, then plug in the DVI, it will work.
the openGL performance SUCKS, either way. since i havent upgraded to 10.6.5, (still at 10.6.4), i have better frame rates than before in 10.6.5. however, still NOTHING compared to windows openGL.
okay okay, everyone knows windows is better for gaming. hows this for those people: the 7900 destroyed this GT240 in WoW in OS-X. (7900: medium graphics at 1680x1050: around 50-60fps. SMOOTH. GT240: low graphics, 1680x1050: 25-30fps). something wrong there if you ask me.

as a reference. in windows, in WoW, at HIGH settings, same resolution: 60fps constant. (can even bump terrain detail, liquid detail, sunshafts, etc, to ULTRA, and framerate will stay the same. )

is this card just FUBAR under OS-X ?

notes though: have tried installing nvidia 2xx series for mac drivers from nvidia, and wont install. took apart the pkg and extracted the packages to my desktop, as reccomended by someone with the same issue i do, and they got it working fine, but are no longer on that forum, so i cannot ask them how they did it. they said they installed each package individually on the post.. cant figure out how to do that.)

Ok got rid of every injector and am using graphicsenabler=y ad it's working same as before, just better openGL performance. I'm thinking it's seeing a second monitor when I plug in the dvi plug, and the default port is the VGA. Now trying o figure out how to switch the default port.

    update: solved my problem.

updated to 10.6.5, installed the nvidia drivers from tonymac, plugged in DVI, and rebooted. same issue, black screen after apple logo. turned off computer, plugged in the VGA, and left that in while it booted. it booted right into the desktop on the DVI. looks like i gotta keep the VGA connected to have DVI use.

So I didn't fix it entirely. The dvi boots now with the VGA plug in also, but the openGL sucks. The interface lags if ANYTHING is running, the dock lags, I have qe/ci, verified by adding a widget and getting ripples. However, those ripples skip frames.

My smbios is from multibeast, for an iMac 11,1 or whatever.. I've tried using a Macpro 3,1 (supposedly the sweet spot) and no difference. Tried Mac mini 7,1. Nothing.

I have deleted both applegraphicscontrol and applepowermanagement (one by one of course, deleted powermanagement first and rebooted, no difference.)

Is it just not meant to be? This XFX Geforce GT240 1GB is windows only?
