XFX Geforce 7950GT 512MB. need help enabling QE/CI
As the title says, I have Leopard running on my AMD Athlon. I used the iDeneb 1.6 distro. I had Leo running with full QE/CI, using my old video card, a Geforce 7900GS 256MB, until I purchased Left 4 Dead 2. The 7900 was lagging a bit, so I threw the 7950Gt back in, and now its totally smooth. Anyways, when I put the card back in, I edited the geforce kexts and injectors with the card's ID (0295) and the system would not boot then. ended up reloading due to other complications.
Fast forward to now. I have leopard back up, running flawlessly, using the voodoo kernel. At first I had no control of anything video related, but using various install packages, I managed to get full resolutions/refresh rates, dual monitor, etc. Just no QE/CI. Call me greedy, but I would like it all to work.
With the latest package, however, nVidia installer V41 or whatever the name is, I have to keep geforce.kext uninstalled, or i get a kernel panic while booting, namely while loading Geforce.kext and NVDARESMAN. So i have Geforce.kext removed, but saved on my desktop.
I have thought about flashing the rom, but will only do that as a last resort, for obvious reasons. The drivers I am using right now enable the OS to see the full 512MB of the card, which, Ive read, is the main issue in the first place.
My hardware consists of the following:
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 64 2.8GHz
Motherboard: Abit NF-M2SV
Chipset: nVidia Geforce chipset (according to Abit, it has a geforce 6100 built in video, so im guessing nForce 6 series chipset???)
Ram: 2GB (upgrading to 4GB today)
Video: XFX Geforce 7950GT 512MB
Audio: Built in HD audio, using VOODOOHDA kexts.
Hard drives: 120Gb Western Digital IDE hard drive (Mac OS X)
500Gb Western Digital SATA Hard Drive (Windows 7 64bit and Linux, seperate partitions)
Optical: Sony IDE CDRW/DVD-rom, Pioneer SATA DVD burner
Netgear WG111v3 WIFI USB adapter
22" widescreen LCD monitor
anyone have any ideas?
and I have tried Snow Leopard using Hazards distro (i also bought a copy of Snow, to support Apple a bit) but after installation it stops at 'IOATACONTROLLERDEVICE blocking bus, then under that: Still waiting for root device". So i have given up on snow leopard, even though supposedly the 7950Gt has built in support.
any support would be GREATLY appreciated! THANKS in advance!

just wanted to post a fix. I got FULL QE/Ci on an XFX Geforce 7950GT 512MB PCi-E video card.
I gave up on it in Leopard, and concentrated my efforts on snow leopard. (though I have leo installed still, i have 60GB for leo and 60Gb for SL, same drive different partitions)
Heres what I did.
used the Hazard distro (i also have the snow leopard retail DVD, because I am an honest person and like paying for stuff I'm using).
didnt install ANY video drivers. i simply inserted my device ID (029510de) into the plist of Geforce.kext, NVDANV40HAL.kext (believe thats it, running Marvins AMD utility right now so on laptop), NVDARESMAN.kext, and natit.kext. (didnt edit natit.kext AT ALL).
*NOTE* Natit MUST be the 64bit version. I am using 64bit because I have 4GB ram, and 32bit crashes when i load it. (KP, must be because of more than 3Gb ram).
note that i did this from LEOPARD, NOT from within snow leopard!!, using osx86 tools)
repair the permissions, reboot. i had to use -v, for some reason if i dont it will not boot.
i got the telltale blue screen, let it sit for a few minutes cuz i wanted to see if it would come up, and it did! why it sits for a few minutes at the blue screen i dont know, but it comes up.
i did not flash the bios of the card AT ALL.
update: I have the keyboard/mouse lag error famous in SL even on real macs (mouse moves but doesnt respond to clicks, keyboard is inop), and this lasts for about 5 minutes. roughly. The Blue screen of Natit is the same amount of time, its about 5 minutes, then the desktop appears, and the mouse and keyboard work instantly. I believe the issue is related...

Thanks.. Though I feel it's not enough, as the blue screen at boot isn't fixed, and profiler only shows 128mb, even though the card is 512mb. I'm just too scared to play with it more because qe/ci works, and videos play no problem. As for games I have windows anyway. For some reason marvins amd utility freezes, so I haven't completed the I'd patching.
Trying to figure out how to update to the newest update, then I'll play with the video some more. FYI: the natit is called silent natit.

7950GT same problem
Hi i'm having exactly same problem as u do. Where did u edit ID of card ? I mean in info.plist there is something like IOPCIPrimaryMatch, but what exact should i type ? something like 0x29010de&0xfff0ffff or just 029010de or 0290x10de ? Thanks a lot. And please can u send me your working kexts ? such natit and nvdan40 and so on. Send it on nico.mys@email.cz or nico.kill@seznam.cz ..
Thanks a lot again !

hey bud, i would if i still had the system configuration. I am now using a GT240, which is almost working 100%. (have full accelleration, openGL, etc, just cant boot using the DVI port).
the 7950 i had i think took a dump, it just kind of stopped working. my suggestion is to look on ebay and craigslist for like a 9800, seems like a lot easier to get going, plus not to mention a MUCH, MUCH more powerful of a card. though you can find a 7900GS 256MB pretty cheap, and install myhack with graphicsenabler=y, and it will automatically pick it up.
if you're hellbent on getting the 7950GT going, edit i believe its NVDAN40. just plug your ID into the PCIID (if i remember right mine was 0x029510de. and edit Geforce.kext with the same ID, and install silent_natit 64. dont edit the natit. and reboot, and it SHOULD work.
OH, and install the new Chameleon RC5 bootloader. GraphicsEnabler=y MIGHT pick it up, no guarentees, though.
