    1. Introduction

First off, I have already read the Read First Before Posting page and I have met the conditions. I have:
    1. searched google out the wazoo,
    2. searched to forums and found that there is someone else in my situation (I intend to make a tutorial of how I got OSx86 on my machine), and
    3. tried to format my problem as best I can on this thread so that it's both visually appealing, and as clear as I can get it.

I'm having troubles getting my head around all of this information available and I still feel like I know next to nothing about Macs, hence wanting to learn by having OSX. anyway! I want to be able to dual boot with my Se7en install on my Toshiba Satellite A215-S5829. you can look up the specs with that bit of info, but I'm providing what I know I have and need help with.

    iPC Latest Install Instructions

2 Issues: (1) "Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPCI", and (2) "Still waiting for root device" error. the second issue could mean it isn't pulling up the correct driver for the sata hard drive. The first one I'm looking into. I've heard of some good results with this distro and look forward to trying it out!

Here's what I believe I need to do so far (marked by "+") mixed with what I'm confused as to needing marked (signified by "???"):

    PHP Code:

Issues: "Still waiting for root device" error, meaning it isn't pulling up the correct driver for the sata hard drive. Time to try a different distro!

    7. Errors and Theories

    Errors:
    1. "IOAPIC: Version 0x21 Vectors 0:23" error and solution
    2. After install, windows vista/se7en can't boot up. Windows Bootmgr and Chameleon boot loader issues. Error specifics and solution can be found HERE
    3. Found potential issues with HDD SATA connection, involving the SB600 kext (for SB600, refer to pictures of CPU-Z report under the Mainboard tab, Southboard section). iPC 10.5.6 fixed it by PPF3 (currently on PPF v1.1, just after PPF5). issues with iAtkos v7. No known solution. MORE INFO

    Theories (Ideas):
    • Strip the AMD and applicable kexts from the iPC mkext so it fixes incompatability issues with Kalyway distro. In layman's terms, it's like taking working parts from one car that won't start and using them to fix a car that has some issues after starting.
    • Successful OSx86 attempt on Toshiba A210/A215 (unconfirmed)
    • Natit.kext customization rumored to fix video card problems with ATI Radeon X1200 (unconfirmed)
    • Callisto.kext b008 customization rumored to fix video card problems with ATI Radeon X1200 (unconfirmed)

If I should be using some other distro, let me know and if you could at least point me in the direction of some tutorial I could use for this, that would be great. I plan on updating this thread as I discover more. Thanks so much everybody!

P.S. Just my luck, I'll probably have an incompatible piece of hardware in the mix...

If I have used any of your information that you have posted in any forum, please notify me in some way (preferrably not on the thread) and I'll give you credit. Thanks all!

Smile Satellite A215 + osx = Pain in the @$$!!!

I''m in the same boat as you friend. Same Hardware, same lack of support ANYWHERE. But maybe we can help each other.

I havent tried the iPC iso, but have had some luck using kalyway (Leo4all not so much). I got all the way through the installation and rebooted, but once osx began booting up i got stuck at the grey apple screen with the swirling icon at the bottom. Every time I would move the cursor the icon would swirl faster.

Through my search i found on a forum someone suggesting to disable usb legacy support, and opening windows to allow some kind of glitch (been a while since i've read it).

In the same forum i remember a post about sb700 or sb7000 something... maybe se7000, and somekind of workaround. I think it had something to do with the hdd.

I have seen posts of success with the a205 model, but those are intel based. I have an a215 s7437 which comes with the amd turion 64 x2 mobile.

I'm going to keep searching, I just have this feeling that it's possible based off how far i got using kalyway, there's prob. something so simple we're unaware of like a patch or small process or something.

Post Re: Satellite A215 + osx = Pain in the @$$!!!

@Jerginz: Sweet, someone responded! I've heard about the SB600 issue and iPC was supposed to have the fix for that (starting in PPF3) but when I used it, it hung around the "Mac Framework Successful Initialization" line and I couldn't get it to stop, no matter what boot flags I put up. It hangs just after the line about IOACPI and I haven't found any solutions besides rolling back the BIOS if you upgraded it in the first place, or replacing the ACPI kext of some sort with an older one... and neither one is even close to guaranteed either.

Now I'm downloading iDeneb v1.4 and I'm going to see if that makes any difference. If not, next stop is iAtkos v7. I already downloaded iAtkos v1.0i and an AMD patch back when it was new and I knew nothing about OSx86, but I never learned how to patch the ISO. Something tells me that iAtkos will be the ticket if nothing else.

Definitely interested in any headway you might make on this. I've got an A210 that I want to get working that has the same chipset and graphics. I tried roughly a year ago to get it working without any luck, so I was hoping that in the last year some headway would have been made compatibility-wise.

    The Hardware of course...

(If yours don't look like this bounce... JK!)

    My Progress:

Well Using Kalyway 10.5.2. and an updated BIOS I passed installation and rebooted. Then I was greeted by the screen i've come to name the Grey Screen of Doom... (Pic should be below lol). That's it, just stays thier. But my friend "SB099" has reminded of my lust for osx86 on my Toshiba a215, so i've rejoined the hunt and am currently downloading EVERY patched ISO on the web lol.

    "Grey Screen of Doom..."

    Next Up...

    1. Downgrading my BIOS.

2.Taking another shot once again at Kalyway (10.5.2.) and Leo4all (forgot which 1...).

    3. umm... report back here... I guess...lol!

I'm actually in the midst of acquiring iDeneb 1.4 right now. I ran across a thread on ipodtouchfans that had someone who had success getting OSX running on an AMD TK-57 and that was what he suggested. I'll keep you posted on any headway I make with it.

    Default iDeneb and iPC screenshots

I must be doing something wrong in my tests because both ISOs are hanging at the exact same point. here are the images of the -v boots during installation. If anyone has any suggestions, please help because I foresee the same issues coming up with all distributions. I replaced the photos with a text rendering of the same info.

EDIT: Solution is to insert a USB device when DVD stops spinning at "IOAPIC: Version 0x21 Vectors 0:23". Very specific directions!
Special thanks to chappatti from InsanelyMac.com.
MUST start computer without USB in slot. Only insert it when install DVD reaches "IOAPIC: Version 0x21 Vectors 0:23". Remove before restart.

I was able to get through the install process with iDeneb 1.4 with the AMD patch, though I haven't had any success booting into that partition. I installed EasyBCD to handle the multiboot and when I select the hackintosh partition it just pauses then reboots again. Any idea what might be going on at that point?

okay, I must be missing something. EXACTLY what did you do to get it past the installation stage? what did you type in and where?

As I mentioned previously I have a A210 as opposed to your A215, so I don't know if that will make a difference.

My bios was 1.5 and I hadn't updated it or anything previously to my knowledge. I had previously tried to install osx, but I don't think I ever messed with the bios. I wrote a DVD of iDeneb 1.4 using disk utility on my iMac(if that might somehow make a difference), then booted using that disc. First I tried just booting and I got the grey screen of death. Next I booted and specified -v. It never hung at the step your install did, but it did take like 10 minutes to get past the black and white screen. It then loaded the iDeneb installer and I was on my way.

From reading your experiences I can't see anything I really did different aside from the fact I never upgraded the bios.
