Acer Aspire 5570z (5570-2792) - almost there but need two more kexts?
I DL'd a 10.5.2 Leo4All, burned it to a DVD, connected an external monitor, and did the install using default settings. Note the external monitor was essential because the internal LCD stayed blue whether I had an external display connected or not; this was the only way to actually get the install done.
Once the computer rebooted (after the install), it went through the setup loop. After the first loop, I rebooted into single-user mode and did the "touch" of the AppleSetupDone (discussed elsewhere but, if asked, I will post the exact commands I used), and enabled a root password. I then rebooted WITHOUT the external monitor attached and the login screen came up on the internal display. I seem to have 7 display choices but the important thing is that the internal display works and works at the native 1200x800 resolution. (I also added a real "admin" user and logged back in as that user so I'd have a real home folder!)
Now on to the issues I need some help with:
The wireless is ID'd as an Atheros AR5005G 802.11abg chip. I've seen the thread about pulling the proper kext from Apple's Max OSX "10.4.5 updater for Intel" and will try that when the DL is done (and will report back here).
The Ethernet chip is ID'd as a Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E Fast Ethernet. Any ideas about the proper kext will be appreciated.
Lastly: The sound chip is ID'd as a Realtek ALC883 (82801G). Again, any advice about which kext to swap in/out will be appreciated.
While there is a PCMCIA slot and an SDHC card reader built into the hardware of this Aspire, I really am not concerned with getting them working. As long as I can connect to the Internet and have audio, I'm happy with this old beast.
By the way, I came into possession of this unit by giving my wife my 15" PowerBook G4 (1.67GHz) in exchange for this. I already have a MacBook and I simply got tired of providing Windows tech support; all that hand-washing afterwards, y'know.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
