Intel Pro/100 VE issues with iDeneb v4 / 10.5.6
Hi there,
I'm relativity new to installing Mac OS on PCs and ran into a few issues when trying to install iDeneb v4 (10.5.6) onto my Toshiba A100 laptop.
The major one was in regards to my Lan card - an Intel Pro/100 VE - which was not detected after installation, even when choosing the correct drivers.
I then read that using an earlier version of the file "IONetworkingFamily.kext" from 10.5.3 would fix this issue (so long as I updated the vendor pci device id's etc to match the card) which I did, then rebuilt permissions, yadda yadda...
However, the card STILL would not work or be detected under 10.5.6 at all (even using the '-f' force command on boot)
So I then "downgraded" my install to iDeneb 10.5.5 and tried doing the same thing (as I still had issues with the card not being detected after the installation) and it finally worked after replacing the "IONetworkingFamily.kext" with my modified version.
So my question is how can you get the Intel Pro/100 VE to work properly in iDeneb v4 (10.5.6) and has anyone sucessfully achieved this (more specifically with vendor ID 1092x8086)
*and*
what is the difference between 10.5.5 and 10.5.6? (I'm big into having the latest version of *everything*, so I would love to get the lan card working under it!)
Thanks!

Easiest way for newbs would be to use a tool like OSX86Tools (http://pcwizcomputer.com/osx86tools/...d=12&Itemid=26) and select "Install Kext" and then select whichever .kext files you wish to install and follow the onscreen instructions thereafter.

Did you repair permissions and also maybe try "forcing" the kexts to load (-f at startup)? If none of this works I'm not sure what the problem might be....
Maybe try removing the AppleHPET.kext file - but back it up first! - under /System/Library/Extensions, then repair permissions and reboot and see if that helps. This file was stopping my firewire from working under 10.5.6, and maybe it's somehow doing the same for your ethernet... doubtful, but maybe worth a try.
If it doesn't help, you can re-install the AppleHPET.kext file and repair permissions again.
Then use the OSX86Tools utility and get a PCI list of your hardware, looking for the LAN card and send me a print out of that and maybe I can try and see if your PCI device IDs are matching up with the kext itself.

Hi,
I've got the exact same problem with my Toshiba Satellite A100-775 laptop and iDeneb 1.4 / 1.6
It all worked fine on iDeneb 1.3 but after upgrading to the newer versions, i could not get it to work...
Have you finally found a way, to solve this problem? Is there another distribution that works fine on your laptop, and supports the intel ethernet card?
thank you...
