Default Bluetooth Mouse & Keyboard won't pair, Kernel Problem?

i have both the Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard. i am running 10.5.6 with a 9.5 kernel. i can not get these two items to pair. someone on another form said that my kernel doesnt match my system update therefore it will not work. well okay, so how do i fix it? he said something about changing the two instances where it says 9.5 and change it to 9.6. well i checked my system.kext and everything already says 9.6.0. so what are my options. im using this generic BT dongle from eBay. it shows up just fine, but its only the pairing. what else can i do to make this work? thanks!!

Same problem here. Bluetooth worked fine with iDeneb 10.5.5. After updating to 10.5.6 and changing to Voodoo kernel I cannot pair with any device. I tried using IOBluetooth kext's from 10.5.5, but no luck. Hopefully the next Voodoo kernel version will solve this.

Looks like in my case the problem appeared after installing Voodoo kernel. It also caused problems with VMWare, so I followed the advice in the documentation and created a link to the kernel called mach_kernel:
    Code:
    cd /
    sudo mv mach_kernel mach_kernel.backup
    sudo ln -s mach_kernel.voodoo mach_kernel
Now everything seems to work. Hope it helps

where did you get that information? it did not work for me. i just realized that I could do a vanilla kernel. i tried that and it still did not work. im about to give up. so all u had to do was put those lines of code in and it worked huh? u are really lucky. perhaps if you can explain to me a little better what exactly is going on. can i do this with a vanilla kernel?

It's probably not a kernel issue after all. Try to replace IOBluetooth* kexts in /System/Library/Extensions to the ones from 10.5.5 or 10.5.4. Don't forget to fix permissions.

im extracting the files from my 10.5.5 dvd. ill update. Happy New Year!

    update:

spaceppl thank you so much for that suggestion. i used the 10.5.5 IOBluetooth kext and it seemed to fix the problem with the mouse. it pairs up just fine. now the problem lays with the keyboard. for the life of me i could not get it to pair. its the damn password thing. it wont let me enter a key. i tried doing it without a passcode but it doesnt work. are u using both the wireless apple keyboard and mouse? its strange that it works for you but not me. i even tried the kext from 10.5.2 thinking it might help, it did not. im really close to giving up on the keyboard. it seems many people are having problems with the keyboard. i tried updating the firmware on the keyboard via my MBP and it says its already up to date. what else can i do. thanks again, i really appreciate your help!

    great! it's work, but
    only IOBluetoothFamily.kext must be replaced...
if u replace IOBluetoothHIDDriver.kext also (*) u will get a generic mouse prefpane, not a mighty one (os wiil be see your mmouse like a generic)
