I've got an iPhone 4 running 4.0.1 with jailbreakme.
I installed multiple tweaks and themes, one at a time to ensure compatibility with the iPhone 4. Some things I have installed are as follows.
Winterboard (with Glasklart HD theme)
Well everything has been running fine. I know it seems like a lot of stuff but with my iPhone 3G I had almost all the same appps without any problems other than the normal slow-down.
For some reason. Out of no where. My springboard has become extremely lagging, choppy and unresponsive. SO bad that it has become difficult to even use.
I know waht your already thinking. Too much stuff installed!!!
Well that is what I was thinking too. So I took the time of uninstalling everything!! One by one I installed every mod then proceeded to reboot my device to see if the springboard problem persisted. And persist it did. I went through my entire list of cydia apps except SBSetting and OpenSSH. I even unchecked every theme and mod in winterboard.
The screen is horrendously lagging still!!
I would restore but Apple is no longer signing 4.0.1 so I'm worried that they'll force me to upgrade to 4.0.2 if I want to restore.
Has anyone else had similar problems?? Has enyone restored to 4.0.1 succesfully since Applae stopped signing that firmware?
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!
And no stupid n00b responses. Save it. I don't want to hear it. I've been jailbreaking iPhones since the first gen and have probably jailbroken a good 20 iPhones for family and friends. I've had every gen iPhone myself and have yet to have exprerience anything like what is going on now. Thanks!
I can confirm that , just restored an 3GS which upgraded to 4.0.2 accidentally. At the other hand 4.0 FW brings many problems to 3G.Installed to many device and you can see the lag in every menu.
The best firmware for 3G is 3.1.3 ;)
iPhone 4 should run pretty well with all that on it, however, Winterboard itself isn't 100% at last check and causes a lot of sporadic issues for people. If you uninstall Winterboard entirely, does the problem go away? I would expect that it would -- though I can also appreciate that is not a workable solution for you.
If you can't nail it down to specific winterboard add-ins that are causing the delay, you can definitely get the tools (MobileTerminal for terminal, then the command 'top') to see what is eating up your ram and processor. It's not the easiest thing to read on the iPhone's display, but it's good enough.
Saurik posted a working MobileTerminal for iPhone4 in his twitter feed a few weeks ago. I do not believe it has been updated in Cydia yet.
abc12345: My phone is an iPhone 4. Not the 3G.
n1ckn4m3: Thanks for the tips. I did try uninstalling Winterboard but the problem persisted. The weird thing is having had an iPhone 3G which was heavily modded I am no stranger to an overtaxed processor and RAM. This problem is something different. Anyway, I just want to update this post if for anyone experiencing the same problem.
I copied my winterboard themes to my desktop and then restored my iPhone to 4.0.1 using my stored SHSH blobs. After, I reinstalled winterboard (and copied my themes back over), SBSettings, Infiniboard, Infinidock, BiteSMS, and Multifl0w. I decided against reinstalling backgrounder and instead let Multifl0w utilize the native iPhone multitasking. The problem has not come back.
Another bit of advice. I drastically trimmed down winterboard. I only have a couple of themes actually running through winterboard. Instead, I copied my custom SMS tones, key TOCK, and such directly to the iPhone UI. I also deleted all the themes that come with winterboard when it is installed. I now only have 5 packages installed and everything seems to run smoother. I would also like to suggest not installing infinifolders. Unless there has been a recent update I am unaware of that package slows down opening folders DRASTICALLY.
