A co worker gave me his old iphone 3gs a few weeks ago. but it had been wiped. the LCD screen was cracked as was the digital glass. I replaced both, and loaded it up on itunes. but is had already been restored to he factory settings. I cannot get into it to check firm ware versions and such. Im wanting to unlock it as well so i can actually use it as an upgrade (Im currently using a 3G) Seeing as it has the latest update, can i still downgrade it and then jailbreak/unlock? even when its back to factory settings?
Asking me for a valid SIM card (Which i have just not registered the that phone clearly)

run TinyUmbrella - reply here with the saved SHSH, iOS and baseband versions that it detects from this phone.

It's currently impossible to downgrade baseband on the 3GS.
Downgrade of iOS on the 3GS is only possible with a saved SHSH.

Baseband 05.16.01-6.4_M3S2

You have no way to downgrade this device..
Jailbreak is very limited on iOS 4.3 right now.
Baseband can only be unlocked if you upgrade it to the iPad baseband (and this is not recommended)

Situation is unchanged regarding unlock.

Redsn0w can jailbreak 4.3.1/4.3.2/4.3.3 untethered.

Still having an issue with the Jailbreak. Keep getting an error when i try to restore with 4.3 ipsw. what am i missing here... this is frustrating.

EDIT: Fix Error 3194

The fix is the same regardless of what operating system you are using:

Quit iTunes
Locate your hosts file, in Mac OS X this is /etc/hosts and in Windows this is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrator privileges
Add the following lines to the very bottom of the hosts file:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Connect your iPhone to the computer
Launch iTunes
Put the iPhone/iPad/iPod into DFU mode by turning the phone off and then holding down the sleep and power button for 10 seconds, then release the power button but hold onto the home button until iTunes tells you that the device is now in recover mode
Use the iTunes Restore feature as usual with the iOS device

Once your iOS update is finished, remove the “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” line from your hosts file again so that iTunes can properly update as usual

Now getting another error. Was able to work around it but when installing Cydia after its complete. the app wont load... Always crashes
