Default Jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3g 4.1 keeping base band intact

I checked my restored OS (iPhone3G 4.1 (8B117) ) and base band (Baseband: 05.14.02 - 6.4_M3S2). I have read here in this blog that 4.1 cant be jail broken in next few months, if not please let me how to do that with 4.1 keeping base band intact.

At present, there are no supported tools released to accomplish what you are asking for. There are a couple of unsupported tools that are around that will do this, but none of them are stable enough or reliable enough for us to recommend that the forum users use them. Early users of the software have had issues with certain key Cydia packages, and there are reports of cellular communication problems using the 4.1 OS with pre 4.x basebands that have not yet been isolated that have caused a lot of grief for users who attempted this with unsupported tools.

If you have nothing to lose in the case of failure and you understand that it's unsupported, you can find these tools by googling -- but I recommend against it at present unless you will not be negatively impacted by being forced to upgrade the baseband to one that is currently incapable of being unlocked (and likely will be unable to be unlocked for several months at least). If you lose nothing by trying, then you lose nothing by trying. If you use this phone daily and it's your "daily driver", AND you rely on an unlock for your service then I really would avoid 4.1 like the plague until the dev-team releases a supported tool for the job.

If you end up with a phone that has the baseband upgraded to the baseband included with 4.1, there is only an extremely small possibility that you will be able to downgrade the baseband back to one that is unlockable -- so what you're asking to do can be very dangerous to your usefulness of the phone if you rely on an unlock, as any failure here can leave your phone in a locked state for months until (maybe) a 4.1 baseband exploit is announced and ultrasn0w is updated to work with it. Highly unlikely though, it doesn't follow with the general release pattern that the dev-team has upheld historically....

    In either case, good luck!

you can jailbreak your 3G on 4.1 safely with redsnow for mac 0.9.6b however you wont be able to unlock or keep your 4.0.2 baseband.

Maybe I interpreted the original post differently. To me he's saying that he has already restored to 4.1 - and asking for confirmation that unlock is impossible (yes it is)

    Redsn0w 0.9.6 (currently os x only) will jailbreak 4.1 on a 3G

A very very small number of 3G iPhones that were made before week 27 of 2008 can use fuzzyband to downgrade their baseband. These 3G owners probably know this already but you can safely try fuzzyband from cydia. It will either work or make no changes.

I think you're probably right -- I misread the post as him being on an earlier iOS and asking to upgrade. In which case, I also could have mentioned TinyTSS since it does a decent job now of blocking the baseband upgrades due to the SHSH check, etc. But I think you're more correct, reading it again, it sounds like he upgraded to 4.1 -- in which case the baseband is locked as you mentioned and unless he's in an extremely small percentage of iPhone 3G users, he can't downgrade the baseband...

TinyUmbrella's baseband upgrade block only works for the iPhone 4. For 3G and 3GS on 4.x the only way to block baseband upgrades is via custom IPSW. The last ditch method used with 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 no longer works for iOS 4.0 and higher.

Good to know -- I thought the soft-SHSH for baseband had been implemented for all devices on iOS 4.0+. Don't want to accidentally have someone upgrade to the 4.1 baseband.
