How did you activate? Did you hacktivate? If so, this is expected behavior. You need to use something like SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module) to get push notifications properly working (or PushFix). This can also have a positive impact on battery life as non-working push notifications can burn away battery fairly quickly. Do a quick search for SAM on the forums and you'll find several posts outlining the steps to use.

Gotcha, if it was hacktivated before you got it, odds are they hacktivated and didn't use SAM. Using SAM should help you get the push notifications working if you're using a supported carrier. Let us know if you have any problems. I've used SAM a few times before and sometimes it can be very temperamental as far as actually getting activated, especially if you're letting it auto-detect the carrier.
