Downgrade of Ipod touch 2G to any jailbrakeable firmware

Hello everyone, i've been searching a bit around this forum and the internet but haven't found a definite answer so i am posting this thread...
I recently bought a Ipod touch 2G, 8gb, i guess a MC model (Settings->General->About->Model),...at the time i haven't read enough about this topics so now i would like to fix my mistakes....The ipod touch is 4.1,...i would like to downgrade it to any jailbrakeable firmware...

Suggest you go back to 3.1.3

4.0.x are slow on the 3G iPhone and iPod Touch 2g. Plus they have a soft-SHSH requirement, which can be worked around but it is simpler to restore to 3.1.x as it has no SHSH requirement.

The only complexity is that 3.1.x iOS versions of iPod touch OS are not publicly available. This was a paid upgrade series for 2G owners.

As a result we cannot link to 3.1.x IPSW for you - that is considered warez and against the rules of this forum.

I understand that you have a legitimate right to a 3.1.x IPSW as your MC model iPod touch was released with 3.1.1 preloaded. You will have to look elsewhere for the IPSW though.

Apple changed this policy for 4.x and allowed any iPod touch device to go to 4.x for free.

What about after/if I obtain a suitable .ipsw file and follow the procedure from

Is there any chance that the device won't work anymore or can every problem be fixed somehow?

Here is summary

1. Get 3.1.x ipsw for your model
2. Put it in dfu mode http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/54082.htm
3. Shift-click restore (option-click on mac)
4. Let iTunes activate the device
5. Run tinyumbrella - it has an "kick device out of recovery mode" option at the end if the restore fails with a 1014, 1015 or 1004 ( you shouldn't get any of these errors - they are for devices with a sim card)
